NI'IED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. LOOK, OF BREMEN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BREAST-STRAP FENDERSL Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,3 1%, dated October 17, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN CALVIN LOOK, of Bremen, in the county of Fairfield and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Breast-Strap Fender, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a breaststrap fender or wearing-plate for the breast-strap of a harness, so contrived by being made in two parts, which are hinged together and have on one a kind of brace for the joint and support for the neck-yoke strap, and on the other forks to throw out the neck-yoke ring, so that the latter is locked in the fender when the strap is in position, and when it is disconnected the ring is unlocked and thrown out by flexing of the plate on the joint. The fender is attached to the strap by loops, through which the straps are passed.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my, improved fender, taken through the linea; :12, Fig. 3, and showing it in working position.- Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the fender in the open position, and Fig. 3 is a top View.
A represents one of the parts, and B the other, which will preferably be made in malleable iron, and with a groove, 0, on the under side for the strap D, and a loop, E, at each upper end. The two parts are so constructed that, being pivoted at F and adjusted for use, they assume the V form of the middle of the strap when suspending the neck-yoke ring, which is shown dotted at G.
Part A hasthe stay and locking-brace H, against which the part B closes, to be braced by it, for the protection of the pivot-joint F, and for securing the ring in the fender; and part B has a fork, I, which throws out the ring when the fender is opened, and closes it' by pushing the ring against it when the yoke is to be connected. The stay-brace H is itself stayed by a rod, J, fitted in the head K and in the part A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The improved breast-strap fender, consisting of the looped and grooved plates A B, constructed in the form shown, and pivoted together at F, substantially as specified.
2. The stay-brace H and the fork I, combined with the looped and grooved plates A B, constructed in the form shown, and pivoted together at F, substantially as specified.
' JOHN CALVIN LOOK.
