CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA PIATFOEM Application led November 18, 1929. Serial No. 408,085.
This invention relates to certain improvements in platforms which are supported on comparatively short legs and of such helght that a truck can be inserted between the legs and raised to elevate the platform from the floor. Platforms of this ty e are used 1n factories and warehouses or supporting goods.
The object of our invention 1s to securely attach the legs to the body o f the platform.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of our improved platform;
Fig. 2 is an end view;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the legs secured to the Z-beam of the plat- Fig". 4 is a sectional view of another method of securing the legs to the platform; and
Figs. 5 to v9 are views illustratlng modifications of the invention.
The body 1 of the platform consists 1n the present instance, of a 'metallic plate flanged at each side and end as at 2-2 and 3-3 respectively. The lower edges' of the fianges are turned inwards as at 4 to form what may be termed a channel ed e. channel edge at each end of the plat orm may be reinforced by an angle bar 5 as shown .1n Figs. 1 and 3, or a fiat bar 5a as shown 1n Fig. 5; and in some instances the inturned -edge 4 of the lian e may be turned over upon itself as at 4a 1n Fig. 6 to strengthen the ends of the 'platform to resist end thrusts of trucks.
The body of the platform is reinforced by transverse beams 6 and 7. The beams 6 are, in the present instance, Z-bars while the central beam is a flanged channel beam. The beams are secured at their ends to the side flanges and to the body of theplatform by welding. r
It will be noted in Figs. 1 and 3, that the webs 10 ofthe Z-bars 6 are inclined and the side members 8-8 of the legs 9 are on the same incline as the webs of the Z-bars, so
when the parts are assembled, the side members 8-8 lie at against the webs of the Z- bars. The members 8-8 are ywelded-to the webs 10 of said Z-bars. This construction is very strong, and as the legs are comparativelof. the bars This l Fig. 5 shows a side member 8a of a leg welded at its upper end to the underside of the platform and also welded to the inturned edge 4b of the flange 2b.
In Fig. 7 the web 10a of the Z-bar 6a is vertical and the members 8b of the legs 9b are bent at their upper ends so that they will rest against the webs 10al to which they are secured, preferabl by welding.
In Fig. 8 the anges of the bars 6b are turned in the same direction while the webs 10b are inclined.
In Fi 9 channel bars 6c are used in place The members 8c are secured to one web 10c of each channel bar.
In each case the inclined members of the egs are secured to the webs of the shaped bars or beams which support the lbody of the platform.
'We claim:
1. The combination inA a platform, of a plate; shaped bars extending across the body of the platform and secuured to the plate, said bars having webs; and longitudinally arranged legs having side members fitting against the webs and secured to said bars.
2. The combination in a platform, of a body portion consisting of a plate flanged at the s1de, said flanges being inturned; Z- bars extending across the platform under thil plate and extending into the channels formed by the inturned flanges, said Z-bars' being secured to the plate by welding; and U-shaped legs having inclined side members, the in- Cline of the side members being on the same angle as the webs of the Zbars, the legs being secured to the bars by welding. c.
3. The combination in a latform, of a plate having flanges at the sldes ,and ends; Z-bars extending across `the platform under the plate at points between the ends thereof and secured to the side anges; legs secured to the Webs of the Z-bars; and reinforcin plates located back of the end flanges o thehplatform and extending parallel therewit 4. The combination in a platform, of a plate; shaped bars extending from one 'side of the body of the platform to the other side thereof, the bars having inclined webs; and U-shaped legs supporting the platform, the fiat surfaces of the upperends of the legs being parallel with the inclined webs of the bars and secured to said bars.
5. The combination in a platforin,` of a I plate; Z-bars 'extending under the plate from one side of the platform to the other side thereof and secured to the plate; and longitudinally arraneed legs at each side of the platform, the side members of said legs being inclined on the same angle of the Z- bars, the flat surfaces of the legs being secured to the Webs of the Z-bars.
6. The combination in a platform, of a plate having flanges at the sides and ends; Z-bars intermediate the ends of the plate and extending frofn one side of the plate to the opposite side thereof and secured to the underside of said plate and to the side ianges of the plate; and longitudinally arranged legs at each side of the platform, the flanged surfaces of the legs being secured to the webs of the Z-bars.
