Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
EDWARD HOWARD, OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK.
4IMPROVEMENT lN DISINFECTING AND DEODORIZING WATER-CLOSETS AND URINALS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,264, dated October 17, 1876; application led February 17, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HOWARD, of Mount Vernon, in the county of Westchester and State Ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Disinfecting and Deodorizing Water- Closets, Urinals, or other places needing to be deodorized or disinfected; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eXact description thereof',
reference being had to the accompanying draW-' ings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in causing a part of the Ordinary Water-supply to pass through a concentrated solution of a disinfectant and deodorizer, and therefore tO disinfect and deodorize in an automatic man- Der. l
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my disinfecting and deodorizin g bottle A ot' earthenware, or any suitable material, large enough to hold about four quarts, tted with an Opening, B, at thetop, through which it may be filled with a 'saturated sol'ution of any good disinfectant and deodorizer, which Opening is closed by a stopper, O. On one side is a pipe, D, tted with a stop-cock, E, which pipe is to be inserted in the water-sup- .ply pipe used to iiush the Water-closet or urinal.' On the Opposite side of the bottle A is another pipe, F, which passes from the bottle to the Water-supply pipe, to be inserted nearer the point of the water-discharge.
NOW, the bottle A being always full of a disinfecting and deodorizing substance, and thepipe D passes into the bottle more than halt' way toward its bottom, whereas thepipe F commences near the top of the bottle A, it follows that when the water is on in the flushin g-pipe some of the disinfectant and deodor- EDWARD HOWARD, M D.
