adapted to interfit with the extension 9a, with a telescoping` lit, whereby said shaft and on, said conical spiraledl point being designated' 18, and having a threaded shank 18 to screw into the shaft 17, as shown, with an interitting joint at 18a over the end ofthe body 16, to prevent the cotton from getting into the joint. The conical spiraled point is thus driven from the shaft 17, and its connections through the main drive shaft G to the motor shaft.
In Fig. 3, we have shown the instrument proper as comprising a disc 19, having its outer face concaved or dished to receive a ,disc of sand paper 20, or other,similarabrach ing material, to seat therein so that the rounded, smooth edge of said disc 19, overlaps said sand paper and thus makes it impossible for it to accidentally cut the iesh at its edge. The shaft 19 of said disc 19, screws vinto the shaft 17, as shown. rIhe sand paper 20 is held in place by means of a. screw 21, and can be interchanged or replaced when desired. The face of the said paper is held against the edge of the finger in the usual usage thereof. Y
In Fig. A5, we have shown a polishing instrument which consists of a shaft 22, with its Yend-threaded, as at 22 and adapted to screw Vinto the shaft 23, in the body 16, 'with a concaved. disc portion 22a on said shaft 22, with its edges formed into teeth, and with rubber, or otherbody 24 on said shaft 2 2, with a holding disc threaded on the outerend of said shaft 22, said holding disc being designated 25. Said cork or body 24, is shown .Covered with chamois 26, or other suitable covering and polishing material, stretched over the body and tucked into the Vopposed discs 22a and 25, and there held unt-il it is desiredto replace it with a fresh piece.

In a manicuring` apparatus, a drive shaft, an outer casing, both being flexible, said drive shaft being operable in said outer casing,said drive shaft at its opposite ends being anchored in said outer casing to take any pull strain applied to said outer casing, whereby pulling strain on the instrument end of said outer casing will not stretch the same, an instrument detachably connected with said outer casing, with driving connections from the dri vc shaft to the instrument.

In an instrument of the character referredrto, in combination, an inner, flexible drive shaft having a head of larger diameter with shoulder and a threaded socket in Aits end, an cuter flexible casing therefor and having head withinwhieh said shaft head `lits with its shoulder abutting against the inner part of said head on said casing, an interlocking element screwed into the opposite end of said driveV shaft and having an enlarged part abutting inwardly against a part in said outer casing, whereby said drive shaft takes any pull strain on said outer casing land prevents its stretching, an instrument detachable to said outer casing, and interiitting, driving connections between said instrument proper and said interlocking element, whereby the latter is driven from said drive shaft.

In combination, an outer iieXible casing tube, an inner drive shaft, abutment means atthe opposite ends of said drive shaft within said casing to take Vthe strain of pull on said casing tube, an instrument detachable to said outer casing tube, and driving connections from the drive shaft within said casing tube to said instrument.

In combination, an outer flexible casing tube,an inner driveshaft, abutment means between the opposite ends ofl said drive shaft and the inside of said casing tube to take longitudinal strain on said casing tube, whereby to prevent stretching of the latter, an instrument proper having a conical point with spiraled means thereon to hold cotton or the like, and adapted tobe operatively connected with said casingtube and said drive shaft'.

In combination, a flexible casing tube, a drive shaft therein, abutment means on said drive shaft Awithin said casing tube and abutting inwardly at opposite ends against portions of said casing tube, whereby to prevent stretching of said casing tube, an instrument having a part detachably connected with said casing tube and an instrument proper operatively connected therein with said drive shaft,
whereby said instrument is driven fromsaid drive shaft. p
7. In combination, a vflexible outer tube, a drive shaft therein, anchor means at the opposite ends of the drive shaft to abutfinward ly against the inner portions of said outer tube and to take pull stra-in from said outer tube, and a manicuring instrument detachable from said outer tube, said instrument comprising a conical point provided with spiraled means from its larger end to its point for holding material thereon while revolving, means for connecting the body of the instrument to said outer tube, and means for connecting the conical point to said drive shaft Within said outer tube for driving the conical point.
