This invention relates to electric lamp globes anddevices for mounting the same.
An object of this invention is to provlde a highly improved and novel means for mounting globes for electric lamps and the like illuminating devices, which shall be extremely simple to manipulate for attachlng or detaching the globe. A further object of this invention is to 1 provide in a globe mounting device of the character described, a hood constructed to permit heat and gases within the globe to readily circulate to the outside.
A still further object of this invention is 15 to provide a mounting device ofthe character described, which shall have improved means for effectively reflecting and diffusing the light within the globe.
Still another object of this invention is 20 to provide a neat, compact and rugged struc- "ture of the character described, which shall be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble and disassemble and which shall yet be practical and eflicient to 2 a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the 30 features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims. In the accompanying drawings, in which is shown one of the various possible embodiments of this invention,

Referring now in detail to the drawings, 10 designates a lamp globe, housing an'elec- .Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view takenon 'tric lamp or other illuminating device'(not shown) attached to mounting means 11, embodying the invention. The globe 10 is provided with a neck portion 13 here shown, as beingformed with an outwardly flaringrim 14. The mounting device 11 comprises a central cylindricalportion 15 to the top portion 16 of which may be attached, lamp sockets and suspension means of any'suitable-construction, whereby the globemay be suspended from a ceiling or the like support.
: Extending outwardly from said cylindricalportion 15 at the bottom thereof,fis a flange 17, preferably corrugated asshown at .18, and polished on the undersurface v19 thereof, whereby said flange acts as a reflector and diffuser for light from the illuminant within the globe. Extending upwardly from the outer portion 20 of said flange 17 is an upwardly and outwardly flaring annular wall 21 concentric with cylindrical portion 15 and adaptedto contact the inner surface 22a of said neck portion 13. Means is provided on' said mounting device 11 for engaging the inner surface of the outwardly flaring portion 22 of the lamp globe,
just beneath the neck portion 13, at a plurality of angularly spaced points, whereby said globe may be suspended from the mounting means. To this end a plurality of radially extending, angularly spaced plates or like members 24 are fixed, bymeans ofrivets 25 .or in any'other suitable manner, to the upper side of the flange 17, the outer end portions 26 of said plates being adapted to contact said flaring portion 22 of the globe. Preferably, two fixed plates 24 are provided, said plates being spacedsubstantially 120 from one another,,a'lthough any number of suitably spaced-members may be employed.
A third movable member 30 is provided .for contacting the flaring portion 22 of the globe at preferably a point thereon equally spaced from the plates24. To this end, the annular wall 21 is formed with a slot. 31 adjacent the flange 17 wide enough for the plate to extend therethru. The plate 30 is disposed radially and is adapted to slidably move on preferably the upper surface of the flange 17, and between a pair of guide members 34 and 35, which may be struck up from the wall of the flange. The plate 30 is provided with a central longitudinal slot 36, and extending through said slot is a rivet or eyelet 37 adapted to attach one end 38 of a spring 39 to the upper surface of the plate 30. The connection is such as to permit the plate 30 to slide. However, said spring 39 is provided with a downwardly bent portion 40 adapted to press against the upper surface of the plate '30. When said plate is moved to the outermost position thereof, as shown in Fig. 3, however, the portion 40 is adapted to snap over the inner end 41 of the plate to preventsaid plate 30 from being accidentally moved inwardly to release the globe. Extending upwardly from the plate 30 at the inner end 41 thereof and disposed on opposite sides of the spring 39 are a pair of integral handle members 42 formed with a beaded top portion 43. Said handle members 42 are adapted to be rasped by the fingers for moving the plate inwardly or outwardly, and also serve as guides for the spring 39.
It will now be clear that to remove the globe from the mounting device 11, it is merely necessary to move the plate 30 inwardly by properly manipulating the handles 42. The device 11 may then be t lted about the plates 24 thereof to bring the portion thereof adjacent the plate 30 out above the rim '14. The globe may then be properly manipulated by'a' side movement to disengage the same from the outwardly extending portions 26 of the plates 24.
The cylindrical portion 15 may be provided with an integral outwardly projecting annular bead and mounted on said bead 50 is a hood 51 having an inner rim 52 slidably receiving said cylindrical portion 15 and engaging and resting on the top of said bead.
The hood is provided with a portion 54 disposed above the rim 14 of the globe and the portion 55 of greater diameter than said rim, whereby a space is formed between the top rim of the globe and said hood. The
cylindrical portion 15 is furthermore provided with a plurality of openings .56 in the wall thereof, below the bead 50, where by heat and gases within the globe, may circulate through said opening and through said space 60. This construction prevents overheating of the globe.
In accordance with the modified construction illustrated in Figsfi and 6, themounting device 11a comprises a flange 17a likewise provided with two fixed radially extending plates or supports similar to plates 24. The movable support 30a however, is pivoted to F the flange 17d as at'62 adjacent the inner end thereof. The plate 30a projects through a slot 63 formed in the outer wall 21a of said member 11, said slot being of sufficient length to permit the plate 30a to be pivotally moved about the pivot 62 thereof from the full line position shown in Fig. 5 to the dotted line position shown in said figure, said latter po- Sition bringing the plate'into superimposed position with respect to the flange, and hence releasing the same from contact with the globe.
A handle member 65 comprising an upright post may be attached to the plate 3064 by means of. a set screw 66, extending through a curved slot '68 formed in said flange 17a. Thus, upon loosening theset screw (36, the handle 65 may be moved for pivotally mov ing the plate. The set screw may be tightened in any position of the plate for retaining the plate in various adjusted positions.
It will thus be seen that there. is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted. to meet the conditions of practical use.
A various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the a.c-
coin mnying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a' limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

an annular flange extending outwardly from said cylindrical portion and an annular por tion extending from the outer portion of said flange and disposed concentrically with said cylindrical portion, one or more members exending from said first member adapted to engage the globe, a member movably n'iounted on the upper surface of said flange, said concentric portion being formed with a slot, said last mentioned member being adapted to be moved through said slot to project from said flange portion and being adapted to engage a portion of the globe in said projecting position, and a handle member on said movable member disposed between said cylindrical portion and concentric portion.
A device for mounting a globe comprising a member having a cylindrical portion, an annular flange extending outwardly from said cylindrical portion and an annular portion extending from the outer portion of said flange and disposed concentrically with said cylindrical portion, fixed means on said memher for engaging said globe, a member movably mounted on the upper surface of said flange, said concentric portion being formed with a slot, said last mentioned member being adapted to be moved through said slot 1 to projec; from said flange portion and being adapted to engage a portion of the globe in said projecting position, and means for retaining said movable member in said projecting position.

A device for mounting a globe comprising an inner cylindrical portion, a flange extemling outwardly from the lower end of said cylindrical portion and an annular portion extending upwardly from the outer end of said flange and disposed concentric with said cylindrical portion, said flange being formed with corrugations, the undersurface of said flange portion being polished, said device being provided with means for supportingly engaging the globe.

In combination with a globe having a neck portion, means for mounting said globe, comprising a member having an inner cylindrical portion extending into said globe through the neck portion thereof, a flange extending outwardly from said cylindrical portion, and a portion extending from the outer end of said flange adapted to contact the inner surface of said neck adjacent the rim thereof, a hood mounted on said cylindrical portion and spaced from said neck portion, said cylindrical portion being formed with a plurality of openings to permit circulation of air from the lamp globe through the space between the hood and the neck of said globe to the outer side of said globe, said member having means for supportingly engaging said globe.

In combination with a globe having a neck portion, means for mounting said globe, comprising a member having an inner cylindrical portion extending into said globe through the neck portion thereof, a flange extending outwardly from said cylindrical portion, and a portion extending from the outer end of said flange adapted to contact the inner surface of said neckadjacent the rim thereof, a hood mounted on said cylindrical portion and spaced from said neck portion, said cylindrical portion being formed with a plurality of openings to permit circulation of air from the lamp globe through the space between the hood and the neck of said globe to the outer side of said globe, said flange being corrugated and polished on the undersurface thereof, said member being provided with means for supporting the globe.

In combination with a globe having a neck portion, means for mounting said globe, comprising a member having an inner cylindrical portion extending into said globe through the neck portion thereof, a flange extending outwardly from said cylindrical portion, and a portion extending from the outer end of said flange adapted to contactthe inner surface of said neck adjacent the rim thereof, ahood mounted on said cylindrical portion and spaced from said neck portion, said cylindrical portion being formed with a plurality of openings to permit circulation of air from. the lamp globe through the space between the hood and the neck of said globe to the outer side of said globe, a, pair of spaced members fixed to said first member, adapted to engage the inner surface of said globe below the neck portion thereof, and a member movably mounted on said member and spaced from said fixed members adapted to be moved into contact with the inner surface of said glob-e below the neck portion thereof.

A device for mounting a lamp globe comprising a member having an annular flange portion, said portion being formed with a pair of spaced guides, a member slidably mounted on said flange between said guides, said latter member having a longitudinal slot, a. rivet extending through said slot and a spring having one end thereof attached to said rivet and having a portion adapted to press against said slidable member.

A device for mounting a lamp globe comprising a member having an annular flange portion, said portion being formed with a pair of spaced guides, a member slidably mounted on said flange between said guides, said latter member having a longitudinal slot, a rivet extending through said slot and a spring having one end thereof attached to said rivet and having a portion adapted to press against said slidable member, said slidable member being formed with a pair of upwardly extending integral handles disposed on opposite sides of said spring.
12. A device for mounting a globe comprising a member having an annular flange, a
member on one face of said flange pivoted to said flange and movable to a radially extending position, said flange having a curved slot therein, a screw extending through said slot and through an opening in said pivoted memher, said screw having a head engaging the other face of said flange and a handle for said pivoted member screwed to the upper end of said screw, whereby said pivoted member may be moved to various adjusted positions and the handle screwed down on said screw for retaining said pivoted member in adjusted position.
13. A device for mounting a lamp globe,
comprising a member having an annular portion, fixed means on said member for supporting the lamp globe, aplate slidably mounted on said annular portion, for radial 3U movement into engagement with said globe, means for limiting the sliding movement of said plate, and spring friction means for retaining said plate in any position to which the same may be moved.
14. A device for mounting a lamp globe comprising a member having an annular portion fixed thereto for supporting the lamp globe, a plate slidably mounted on said annular portion for radial movement into engagement with said globe, meansfor limiting the sliding movement of said plate,
spring friction means for retaining said plate in any position to which the same may he moved, and a handle member integral with said plate member.
