, This invention relates generally to brushes and more particularlyto a brush which is especially constructed for cleaning stove pipes but it is understood, of course, that a'brush in accordance with this invention for any purpose .for which the same may be found adapted and desirable.

An important object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set 19 forth, a stove pipe cleaner embodying a head which includes a circular disk which is rigidly mounted on an operating handle and which is provided with concentric holes for the reception of a plurality of wire bristles, said bristles being inserted through the holes and'then bent to substantially U-shaped form in a manner to project radially from the disk onopposite sides of said disk.

Other objects ofthe invention are to provide a stove pipe cleaner of the character de scribed which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, eflicient in operation and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate correspond ing parts throughout the several views, and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail View in section showing the means for mounting and securing the wire bristles in position in the openings in the disk. Figure 6 is a detail view in perspective of a pair of the integral bristles.

Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 1 de ignates an elongated rod which constitutes a handle having one end looped to provide an eye or the like 2for suspending the device from a suitable support, such as'a nailor' hook when not in use.

The opposite end portion of the handle 1 is threaded and has mounted thereon be tween the clamping nuts 3 and 4- a flat disk 5 which maybe formed; of any suitable material and which isprovided with a centrally disposed opening for the passage of the handle 1 as will be apparent. T

The disk 5 is further provided with a concentric series of openings 6 for the passage of the wire bristles which are designated generally by the reference numeral 7 (see Figure 6). The bristles 7 are formed in integrally connected pairs from single lengths of wire which are inserted through the openings 6 and then bent at their intermediate portions to substantially U-shaped form in a manner to provide the individual bristles 8 which extend adjacent the opposite sides of the disk 5 and project radially beyond the periphery thereof.

As best seen in Figures l and 5 of the drawings, the bristles 7 are secured against movement in the openings 6 by driving pieces or bodies of comparatively soft metal such as lead 9 into the openings 6 after the bristles have been inserted through said openings for frictionally clamping the bristles in position. The bristles are then bent to substantially U-shaped form.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings the disk 10 is provided with inner and outer concentrically arranged series of openings 11' and 12,,respectively, the openings constituting each series being arranged in staggered relation with respect to each other and having mounted therein the comparatively long and short bristles 13 and 14, respectively. In all other respects the modified form of thedevice illustrated in Figure 8 is similar to that illustrated in the remaining figures, the bristles 13 and 14 being secured in position in the manner illustrated in Figure 5. 7

As may be apparent, when in use the handle 1 is utilized .to insert the disk with the bristles thereon in the pipe to be cleaned and the brush is manipulated in the pipe in a suitable manner to efl'ectively clean the same.

It is believed that the many advantages of a stove pipe cleaner in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and a1 5 though the preferred embodiments of the invention are as illustrated and described, it

What is claimed is A stove pipe cleaner of the character de scribed comprising a disk having a circular series of openings therein, bristles inserted 15 through the openings, keepers of comparatively soft metal driven into the openings between the bristles and the outer portions of the Walls of the openings, said bristles being bent to substantially U-shaped form as and extending over the exposed ends'of the keepers and radiating from the disk.
