IMPROVEMENT IN PITMEN FOR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,983, dated October 3, 1876; application filed September 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES DEE WRIGHT, ofOolumbia, in the county of Maury and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pitman for Harvesters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification. The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a pitman for harvesters, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in Which Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, of my invention.
A represents the pitman-rod, which is at one end to be provided with the ordinary pitman-heel. At the other end the pitman-rod A has a ball, B, formed on it. This end of the rod with the ball is placed within the pitman-head, which is made in two sections, 0 0, provided with suitable boxing to receive the rod and ball. In the other end of the biseated head 0 O is an eye for the passage of the fly-wheel pin D. When the rod and ball have been placed in position the two sections are brought together, and so held bya shield composed ofa collar or band,E, fitting around that end of the box, and provided with two straps or arms, G G, which extend backward for a suitable distance. A single bolt, H, is then passed through the ends of the straps G G, and through both head-sections O C, and a nut, I, screwed on the end of the bolt, whereby the whole is united and held together.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the pitman A with ball B, the bisected box 0 O, collar or band E, with arms G G, and the single bolt H with nut I, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
