UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGEC CARLO TAYLOR, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURRY-COMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,969, dated October 3, 1876; application filed September 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARLO R. TAYLOR, of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and Stateof Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curry-Combs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a currycomb, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, which fully illustrates my invention, A represents the handle, in which are inserted two wires, B B, which are curved outward in opposite directions and then run parallel with each other, the extreme outer ends being bent outward to form the knockers G C. To the parallel portions of the wires or arms B B is fastened a sheet-metal plate, D. This plate is provided with a series of rows of slots, at a, extending from end to end of the plate. In each row of these slots is inserted a continuous corrugated wire. The wire is .inserted from the back of the plate and held firmly in place by solder or other convenient method, and the wire forming on the front of the plate a series of open V-shaped or curved teeth, b b, as shown.
The comb thus constructed will clean perfectly in much less time than any other, will not cut the skin nor pull out or uproot the hair, and Works admirably as a main and tail comb, and does not clog or fill up with dirt. It is cheap and simple, and yet durable, and can be used for cleaning horses, cattle, &c., or other analogous purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a curry-comb, the plate D, provided with a series of rows of slots, at, and a con tinuous corrugated Wire inserted in each row and fastened thereto, forming the open V- shaped or curved teeth b, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination of the handle A, wires B B, forming knockers O O, and the slotted plate D, with open V-shaped or curved wire teeth 12, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st.day of September, 1876.
CARLO R. TAYLOR.
