Serial No. 427,031.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a sample card mat.
The invention has for an object the pro vision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable'construction dependable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost. I
The invention proposes a cover member creased to form several panels, a sample holding member attached along one edge to each panel so that access may be had to the rear side thereof and comprising a top sheet portion and a bottom sheet portion connected together along opposite edges, and one of equal to said small sides be inserted betweensaid topand bottom sheet portions for maintaining its position so that the display tab is viewablefrom the front of the sample holding member and removable from the rear.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a plan view of a sample card mat in open position.
Fig; 2 is a perspective view of the mat shown in Fig. 1 partially closed.
Fig 3 is an enlarged end elevational View looking in the direction of the line 33 of Fig; 1.
.Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of a portion of Fig. 1.
Fig 5 is a plan view of the display tab shown in Fig 4.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional View taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 1, shown without the display tab.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of Fig. 1 shown with the sample holding member bent upwards.
Fig. 8 is a View similar to a portion of Fig. 1, but illustrating a modification.
Fig 9 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 8.
The sample card mat consists of a cover member 10 creased as at 11 to form a plurality of panels 12, a sample holding member 13 attached along one edge 14 to each of the panels 12 so that access may be had to its rear side 15 and comprising a sheet bent upon itself so as to form a top sheet portion 17 and a bottom sheet portion 18. The bend is indicated by reference numeral 19 and the ends opposite the bend are secured together and constitute said edge 14 which is attached to the cover member 10.
The top sheet portion is formed with a plurality of openings 20, and the bottom sheet portion is formed with a plurality of openings 21 directly beneath and larger than the openings 20. The openings 21 are formed with inclined corners 22 forming sides 23 of a smaller length than the width of said openings 21 so that a display tab 24 of a length substantially equal to the length of the opening 21 may be placed behind each of the large openings 21 and have reduced ends 25 and 26 of a width equal to the said smaller sides 23 inserted between said top and bottom sheet portions 17 and 18 respectively for maintaining its position so that the display tab is viewable from the front of the sample holding member thru the openings 20 and removable from the rear.
The method used for attaching the sample holding member 13 along one of its edges to the panel, consists of the application of glue, paste or the like. in Fig. 1 the region from the left hand edge of each of the sample holding members to the dot and dash lines 28 indicate the region in which the glue or paste is applied. This glue or paste is indicated by a heavy line 29 in Fig. 6 between the sample holding member and the cover member 10. In Fig. 7 the sample holding member has been bentup so that the rear side may be seen. The'various tabs 24: may be pulled out from this rear side. When the sample holding member is viewed from the front, the edges of the cloth material upon the display tab will not be seen since the window opening is of a smaller size than the width of the display tab device.
The ends of the sample holding member opposite the bend 19 have been recited as secured together, and it is advisable that thisattaching be done with glue, paste or the like. In Fig. 6 theheavy line indicates such material for holding the ends together. This arrangement provides an opening 31 between the top and bottom sheet portions of the sample holding member useful in the proper adjustment of the in the holder. j I It is particularly pointed out that the inclined corners 22 ofthe opening 21 reduce the sides of the opening to a smaller length than the width of the opening. These sides are indicated by reference numeral 23. Now, if the reduced ends 25 and26 of the tab are the same widths as thesides 23, the tab will be firmly held against up and down movements. If the .main portion of the tab is of the same length as the largeopening 21, portions' thereof will extend over the filled in corners of the opening and thus prevent lat-. eral movements of the tab. The tab may be formed from a sheet ofpaper, and a cloth sample glued or otherwise secured thereon.
The top sheet portion of each of the sample holding members is formed with a plurality of openings 33 immediately to the sides of the 'openings'30. One of the reduced ends of the various tabs extends beneath the openings 33 so as to'be viewable from the top of the sample holding member. This extended end of the tab'may be printed with a name,
such as 34:in'Fig. 5, indicating the color of the sample upon the tab.
In the modified form of the device illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, a modified means has been shown for attaching each of the sample holding members upon the coverv member. This means consist-s of a plurality of head members 35 attached upon the cover member 10 and formed with lateral projecting hooks 36. This member may be attached upon the cover member with glue or the like. indicated by referencenumeral 37. Bayonet slots 38 are formed in the sample holding mem ber and are so arranged that the sample holding member may beslipped upon thehead members 35 and maintain-their positions. In ad-,
dition, the sample holding member is formed with slots 39 for receiving'the hook 36 so as to insure the maintenance of its position. The sample holding member shown in Fig. 8
display tab when placed may be removed by manually bending it so that the hooks 36 disengage from the apertures 39, and then the sample holding member may be moved upwards so that the large portions of the bayonet slots 38 are moved beneath the heads 35 and thereupon permit a removal.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the in vention as defined in the appended claims.
' Having thus'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is;-
