A. H. WILSON.
I-RONING BOARD.
No.18Z,880. Patented Dct.3,1876.
P5555, PHOTO-LFIHOGRAPNER. WASHINGTON. a c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM H. WILSON, OF HAUTZDALE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO PETER NAV, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,880, dated October 3, 1876; application filed August 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM H. WILsQN, of Hautzdale, in the county of Glearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Ironing-Board; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective View of the board. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing the bindinghoops raised.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, A is a board covered by a cloth of any suitable kind, to give an elastic surface, on which the article to be ironed can rest; or the board may be cushioned or upholstered in any desirable manner. Pivoted to the board A at b b are two hoops, B B, which conform to the outline of the board and pass around its edge, resting on a ledge or shoulder, 0, formed on the lower portion of the edge of the board.
The hoops or bands B being raised, as seen in Fig. 2, the article is laid over the board.
The hoops are then brought down into the position shown in Fig. 1, and the article is clamped between the hoop and the edge of the board, thereby stretching it and holding it in a smooth position while being ironed. In ironing shirt-bosoms, for which work my board is particularly adapted, the board is placed inside the shirt and the collar-band is drawn smoothly over the edge of the board, and the hoop brought down upon it. This holds the top of the bosom secure. When lower portion of the shirt is brought under the opposite hoop, the shirt with bosom drawn tight and smooth, and is then secured by bringing down the hoop.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The board A, provided with the offsets G G, in combination with semi-elliptical surrounding bands or hoops B pivoted near the center at b b, substantially as and for the purpose described.
ADAM H. WILSON.
