The card index or record device shown in the drawings includes a plurality of recordbearing cards or members 10 each having a body portion 11 formed of a sheet of suitable material on which the records or other matter may be inscribed directly, or themember may be' provided with a sheath or pocket at the lower edge thereof as shown at 12, Fig. 1 and 6, into which an edge of a record-bearing card may be inserted. The bottom walls, in vid'ed, have usually been made entirely flat. The useof a flat-bottomed tray, however, with cards or holders'having their flaps or attaching 'members formed as above described, would be obj ectionable-, as the portionsof the flared edge 25 would, by engaging the contin: uous flat bottom, be'flatt'ened out-,as by the pressure exertedon'the card seriesby the hand of theuser' when makingentri'esin the index, or in other ways, thus destroyin'gthe usefulness of theimproved flaps for the purpose stated.- In order to overcome this difliculty, and protect the flared edges 25 of the card holders and relieve them from pressureand undue'wear in use,.the-tray 10, in accordance with "the invention isspec-ially constructed so as to provide parts cooperating with the cards or holders toeffect such results. By forming the cards or card holders and the tray as described, an improved record device is provided which is more practical than such devices heretofore known, and greater efficiency in use is ensured by'the ease with which the cards may be nested. The

life of the cards is also increased by the protecting means outlined to an extent which greatly ofi'sets the slight increase in cost of production due to the extra operations in-' volved. I claim as my 1nvent1on:
