HEEL'ATI'IACHING DEVICE 'Ap plicat ion flled December 11,1930. Serial no. 501,522.
The invention relates to'a shoe heel attaching device.
' The object of-the invention is ,toprovide a shoe heel attaching device consisting of few parts that may'readily and economically be produced and that will efficiently perform the function r of holding the heel in position against the heel seat of the shoe while attaching said heel thereto.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a heel attaching device wherein the clamping member is adjustably mounted at one end of a lever which is pivotally mounted on a support that has a heel receiving pocket associated therewith, the other end of said lever being associated with a'jack screw which also cooperates with the support and.
acts to move said lever and clamping member to its clamping position and maintalns it in this position while driving in the nails or other attaching devices securing the heel to the shoe.
The. invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation view of the device embodying the invention, parts being broken away and parts being shown in section;
' designates a support Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional View taken on the line 3-8 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 6 preferably formed as a one piece'casting having shoe heel receiving recess or seat 7, a socket portion 8, an inclined side socket or recess 9, an u standing arm 10 having a forked upper en 11, and a hand held opening 12.
The socket portion 8 is adapted to detachably receive the upper end of a cobblers last- N holding standard13.
The tapered and curved side of the heel receiving recess is preferably lined with cushioning material 14 such as felt.
A lever 14 is pivotally mounted intermediate its end on a pivot bolt 15 adapted to be inserted in one of a series of vertically space-d holes 16 in the forked; upper-end 11 of the I 18 and is pivotally connected to the lever 14 at this point by a pivot pin 22.
A screw or jack shaft 23 has its forked that carrying the member 19 and its free end pro ects into the socket 9 in the support 6.
-'A manually operable .or tur'nable nut 26 1, 1s mounted on the screw shaft 23 and is adapt the support 6 adjacent the ed to abut against recess 9.
The head 20 is provided withspaced nail.
16, lower heels may be accommodated.
The deviceis simple in construction, requiresvery little machine work for 1ts man- .9 upper end 2 1 pivotally. connected by a pin 25 with the opposite end of the lever 14 from.
ufacture, is easy to operate and insures an accurate alinement between the heel and shoe while securing these parts together.
I desire it to be understood that this invention is not to be limited to any particular form or arrangement of parts except so far as such lir. tations are included in the claims.
hat I claim as my invention is: c
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a support having a heel receiving portion, an arm projecting above said portion, said support having a recess adj acent said arm, a lever pivotally mounted on said arm, a clamping member ,pivotally mounted on one end of said lever and adapted to engage the shoe to clamp the same against the heel while attaching the heel, a screw shaft operatively connected with the other end of said lever and having its free end working in said recess, a: d a nut on said s' ew shaft cooperating with said support to move said shaft and lever to bring and maintain said clamping member in a clamped position.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a sup sort having a heel receiving portion, an arm projecting above said portion, said support having a recess adjacent said arm, a lever pivotally mounted on said arm and having a handle, a clamping member pivotally mounted on said lever ada clamping member pivotally mounted on said lever adjacent said handle and engageable with the shoe to clamp the same against the heel, and lifting means between the other end of said lever and said support to raise this end of said lever and exert a clamping pressure through said lever on said clamping member.
5. In a device of the character described, the combination of a support having a heel receiving portion and an upstanding arm, a lever pivotally mounted intermediate its ends on said arm, a clamping member operatively connected, to one end of said lever and engageable with the shoe to clamp the same adjacent the heel while attaching the heel, and lifting means between the other end of the lever andisaidtsupiport toraise this end of said lever and exert a clamping pressure through said lever said clamping member.
In testimony whereof, I my signature.
JACOB XVOLF.
jacent said handle and adapted to engage the 1 shoe to clamp the same against the heel while attaching the heel, a screw shaft operatively connected with the opposite end of said lever and having its free end working in said recess, and a nut on said screw shaft coopera ing with said support to move said shaft and lever to bring and maintain said clamping member in a clamped position.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of a support having a heel receiving portion, an arm projecting above said portion, said support having a recess adjacent said arm, a lever pivotally mounted on said arm, a clamping member pivotally mounted on one end of said lever and engagea-ble with the shoe to clamp the same against the heel. while attaching the heel, said member having openings therein for the passage of fastening means, said lever being slotted adjacent said clamping means to admit of the insertion of a driver therethrough for said fastening means, a screw shaft pivotally con nected with the other end of said lever and having its free end working in said recess, and a nut on said screw shaft cooperating with said support to move said shaft and lever to bring and maintain said clamping member in clamped position,
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of a support having a heel receiving portion and an upstanding arm, a lever pivotally mounted intermediate its ends on said arm and having a handle at one end,
