The pin l()l carries a spring ll'vvhich bears 1 upontheouter face `of the 'bar 7 yto press 4the u however, the door may same against the wear plate, the spring being retained on the pin by a nut 12 at the outer end thereof, which may be adjusted to properly tension the spring. A short distance from its inner end, the guide bar 7 is bent to provide a. tapering projection 13 and a recess 1li between the projection and the pin 10.
A U shaped bracket 15 is attached to the under side et the lintel by means oi screws 16 and this bracket has a central aperture 17 which receives one end of a stop bar 18, the stop bar 18 having an end portion 19 bent upwardly and laterally to provide a pivotal connection for the bar in the opening 17 of the bracket. The opposite end of the stop bar 18 has a downwardly bent portion 2O which lies between the guide bar 7 and the wear plate 5, the portion 20 being bent laterally at its lower end to provide a retaining portion 21, the portions 20 and 21 at the end ot the bar providing a hook for retaining the stop bar in engagement with the guide bar.
Vfhen the door is swungto open position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, the end portion 2O of the stop bar 18 moves from a point at the outer end of the guide bar 7, `as shown in full lines in 1, to the inner end of the guide bar, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. W'jhen the portion 2O ot the stop bar engages the tapered projection 13, the guide bai' 7 is pressed outwardly against its own resilience and against the pressure of the spring 11 to permit the portion 2() of the stop bar to pass the projection 13 into the recess 14.. When the end'portion 2O of the stop bar is engaged in the recess 14, the door is latclied in open position. The taper of the projection 13, liowevenewill permitthe stop bar to the projection 13, it stilici nt pressure is applied to the door in a direction to close it.
Under normal conditions, the door will be held open until pressure is applied manually to the free edge oi' the door. Sometimes,
c .u L be s bjected to heav i wind pressures which would torce the stop past the yielding laten and free the door. In order to prevent damage to the door by heavy inds, means is provided by which the door may be positively held in open position. To accomplish this result, a locking device is provided for positively holding the inner end of the guide bar 7 against outward movement so that. the end20 of the i stop bar is positively retained in the recess toe pin guide bar 7, so that it does not inter-tei" with the movements of the bar 7 toward and from the do-or. The bar has a lower end portion 211 bent inwardly at an angle, and normally resting against the face oit door, the aperture in the bar 22, tliro which the pin 10 passes, being oi somewhat greater diameter than t-lie pin so that the bar may be rocked toward and from the door. lt will now be apparent that the p t invention provides a very simple and reliable door stop which operates normally as an automatic latch for yieldably retaining the door in open position, but which aise provides means for positively lockiig the door in open position when desired.
It will Valso be evident that the device is composed of a minimum number or parte all of simple construction and inexpensive to manufacture and that the device can be very quickly and easily assembled and attached to a door.
What l claim is:
1. A stop device interposed between a swinging closure member and the structure in which it is mounted comprisin` a stop member movably connected to the closure member and structure, latchiiig means engageable with said member for yieldably holding the closure member in an open position, and a manually operable locking member engageable with the latching means for positively holding the same against movement and locking the closure member in open position.
