My invention relates to buildingconstruction and more particularly to corner connections for metal opening construction.
In the use of metal framing for openings in which two vertical and horizontal members are utilized, considerable difi'iculty has been experienced in constructing a suitable corner connection for the vertical and horizontal members. i i I I a An object of my invention is to provide asimple and economical securing means for two intersecting metal frame members which is simply manufactured and readilyinstalled on the j oh by unskilled labor.

In installation the vertical members are temporarily set up and the horizontal memthrough the apertures in the horizontal mem her; The tongues are then readily'bent'down into contact with the web of theframe, and a preliminarysetting is effected. Thebolts 17 and 18 are then inserted from the back side of the vertical members, through the registeringapertures in the member 15 and the web B and the nuts 19 and 20 are screwed down from the inside of the horizontal chan- 'nel shaped member B to effect a positiveand final rigid connection at the corners.
It is obvious that I have a metal frame opening having a corner connection of the utmost simplicity and insuring the absence of any movement laterally by reason of the tongues 21 and 22 firmly engaging the web of the cross member B; the bolts 17, 18 prevent upward movement of the cross member B, and the cut out portion "of the vertical door stop prevents any horizontal movement of the cross: member. The vertical and cross members are thus r gidly and permanently secured and all possibility of movement in anydirection isthus eliminated. t
WhileI'have shown and claimed anoninstruction infwhichthe head frame overlies the ends of the said frames it will be understood that this construction may bereversed I herein disclosed a without invention. That is, the same interlocking connection may be made Where the side frames overlie the ends of the head frame.
Obviously numerous variations and modifications may be made in the construction herein disclosed and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A corner connection for intersecting ver tical and horizontal frame members, comprising a pair of vertically disposed channel shaped metal frame members and a horizontally disposed channed shaped member, said horizontal member having a plurality of spaced slots in the web thereof near the outer extremities of said member, a pair of upwardly extend. g tongues on each of said vertically disposed members, said tongues being adapted to enter said slots and to be bent over, and threaded means cooperating between said intersecting members near the outer extremities thereof to rigidly secure the same.
2. In combination a pair of vertically disposed frame members, rebent aster defining strips on said frame members extending longitudinally thereof, a horizontally disposed channel. shaped head piece, said. head iece having a plurality of spaced slots in the web thereof near the outer extremities, a pair of rebent plaster defining memberssecured to the flanges of said head member and extendin substantially the length thereof, a pair of upwardly extending tongues formed from the metal in the Web of said vertical members. said tongues being adapted to be received in the slots in said horizontal member, and threaded means cooperating between said horizontal and vertical members, to firmly join the same together.
3. Means for securing intersecting metal frame members, comprising in combination, verti *al and horizontal channel. shaped frame members, said horizontal member having a slot near each extremity thereof, an upwardly extending tongue formed out of the metal of the web of said vertically disposed memers, said tongues being adapted to be received w'thin the slots in said horizontal member, an apertured metal strip secured to the flanges of each of said vertically disposed memoers near the upper extremity thereof, and threaded means cooperating between said strip and the web of said horizontal member for securely joining the same.
4:. Means for securing intersecting metal frame members against lateral and vertical separation, comprising in combination vertical and horizontal metal frame members, said horizontal member having a plurality of adjacent slots near the extremities thereof, a plurality of tongues extending upwardly from the upper extremity of the vertical frame members and adapted to be inserted into said slots, a door stop formed out of the metal of said vertical and horizontal members, an apertured metal strip secured to one face of said vertically disposed members near the upper extremity thereof, and threaded means cooperating between said strip and said horizontal member for securely joining the same.
5. Means for securing intersecting metal frame members against lateral and vertical separation, comprising in combination vertical and horizontal metal frame members, said horizontal member having a plurality of adjacent slots near the extremities thereof, a plurality of tongues extending upwardly from the upper extremity of the vetical frame members and adapted to be inserted into said slots. a door stop formed at of the metal of said vertical and horizontal members, a portion of said vertically disposed door stops being cut out at the upper extremity thereof and adapted to re ceive the door stop formed on the horizontal members. an apertured metal strip secured to one face of said vertically disposed members near the upper extremity thereof, and. threaded means cooperating between said strip and said horizontal member for securely joining the same.

Means for securing intersecting metal frame members against lateral and vertical separation, comprising in combination vertical and horizontal channel shaped frame members, said horizontal member having a plurality of adjacent slots near the extremities thereof, a plurality of upwardly extending tongues on said vertically disposed members, said tongues being adapted to be re ceived within slots in said horizontal mem her, door stops formed out of the metal of said vertical and horizontal members, the upper extremities of said vertically disposed door stops being cut out to permit the horizontally disposed door stop to be seated therein an apertured metal strip secured to the flanges of said vertically disposed members near the upper extremity thereof, and thread ed means cooperating between said strip and the web of said horizontal member for securely oining the members together.
7. In combination, a frame consisting of side fumes and head frame, the head frame overlying the ends of the side frame a portion of the head frame having an opening, a tongue formed as a continuation of a part of the side frame, said tongue being adapted to enter said opening and be bent over, a transverse bolt-supporting member fixed to the side frame, and a bolt adapted to engage said supporting member and the overlying portion of the head frame.
