BLACKBURN, OF LEESIBURG, FLORIDA LATHING UNIT Application filed May 19, 1930. Serial No. 453,751.
vision of reinforcing elements of such construction that they may be easily handled and bundled for shipment along with other build.- ing supplies.
provision of means for hinging the reinforcin'g elements adjacent to the lath joints and permit them to be swung to overlie] the joints and firmly secure them in such positions that the-plastering'or similar material will be efliciently supported at the joints and obviate the danger of the plaster cracking or becoming detached.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a lathing unit of the above stated character which will be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at' a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a similar view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the w numeral 1 indicates laths or similar building elements constructed from wood, metal or any other suitable material and which are secured to the supporting beams 2 in the usual manner and arranged in spaced relation that a plaster or similar material may readily adhere thereto. Toassure the plaster adhering I, or remaining in place at the lathed joints, re- A further object of this invention is the inforcing elements 3 are secured in position over theadjacent, ends of the laths and each "a include an elongated metallic frame 4- to which is secured wire mesh 5 that the plaster 'may adhere to and be prevented from cracking or becoming detached from the building after it has been in use for any considerable 5 length of time. The frame 4 is secured to the laths along one side by staples 6 or similar fasteners which are preferably driven through the laths and clinched or' bent to hinge the frame that the latter may be swung u to overlie the ends of the laths and secured in this position by headed fasteners extending through the mesh 5 and driven through the laths into the beams 2.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted, that a very simple and efli-. cient means is provided for reinforcing the laths at their joints and'which will permit the plaster to readily adhere thereto and maintain the plaster solid and free from cracks and the like.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A lathing unit comprising an e'lon ated frame having one side hinged to the lat s of a Wall construction and at one side of the opposing ends of. the laths that said frame may he swung to overlie said ends of the laths, foraminous material closing the frame, and headed fasteners extending through the material and driven into certaln of the laths to retain the frame in said last named position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WAYNE W. BLACKBURN.
