This isthe and lit "ma Na Patented Oct. 6, 1931 lTED STATES HENRY c. ENGLAND, or nni N:c,LMronIGA EDUCATIONAL PICTURE EXHIBITOR Application filed May 11,
This invention relates to an educational picture exhibitor and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
cludes a stand having spaced side walls and a picture roll adapted to be journaled in the side walls. A winding shaft is also journaled in the side walls and adapted to be connected with the picture or belt upon which the pic tures are mounted means being provided for holding that portion of the belt which is ex-. posed in a stretched condition. The parts are so arranged that a light may be placed behind the opening through which the pictures are observed and the pictures may thereby be illuminated or made more distinct. Also a horn may be used in conjunction with the apparatus to be used for giving an explanation of each picture as it appears and thus indicating the motion picture and a talking picture at the same time. The pictures may be made by hand or any other suitable process and legends or text relating to the picture may be printed thereon so that the observer of the picture may be instructed in reading in order to ascertain the application of the text with respect to the illustration appearing upon the picture.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the educational picture exhibitor.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional V18W- thereof cut on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the same.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary detail sectional view out on the line H of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of one end portion of the screen used in the exhibitor.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawings the educational picture exhibitor consists of a stand made up of side wall pieces 1 having pedestals 2 whereby the stand may be supported upon a desk or table. A receptacle 3 connects the lower portions of the 1931. Serial No. 536,594.
side walls 1 together and may serve as a container for holding the rolls of pictures or screen. The receptacle 3 is provided with a hinged cover 1 which also serves as a top for the said receptacle. Upper and lower cross bars 5 pass through the side wall members 1 and wedges 6 pass through projecting end portions of the cross bars 5 and bear against the outer surfaces of the side walls 1. lVhen the wedges 6 are forced down into the cross bars they will have a tendency to draw the upper portion of the side walls 1 together. A roll shaft 7 is ournaled at the intermediate portions of the side walls 1 and a winding shaft 8 is journaled at the upper portions of the side walls 1. The shafts 7 and 8 are provided with eyes 9 in which may be engaged hooks 10 carried at the ends of a screen sheet 11. The screen sheet 11 is originally wound upon the roller 7 and may be unwound from said roller upon the roller 8. The shafts 7 and 8 are provided with squared ends '12 to which the surface of a crank 13 may be applied when the said crank' is used for turning the shafts. lVashers 14: of soft rubber' are mounted upon the end portions of the shafts 7 and 8 and bear against the inner surfaces of the side walls 1. When the wedges 6 are driven down in the cross pieces 5 and the upper portions of the side walls 1 are drawn together the said walls frictionally engage the washers 1 1 so that the screen will remain taut between the shafts.
Having described the invention what is claimed is i 1. A picture exhibitor comprising a stand having spaced'side walls, a picture roll adapted to be ournaled in the side walls, a winding shaft journa-le-d in theside walls, and adapted to be connected with the picture, said roll and winding shaft having means for rotation disposed beyond the outer surface of one of the side walls and means for drawing the side walls inwardly to establish friction between said walls and the picture roll and winding shaft.
2. A picture exhibitor comprising a stand having spacedside walls, a picture roll adapted to be journal-ed in the side walls, a wind I ing shaft journaled in the side walls, and
adapted to be connected with the picture, said roll and winding shaft having means for rotation disposed beyond the outer surface of one of the side walls, and means for drawing the side walls inwardly to establish friction between said walls and the picture roll and winding shaft and compressible washers located between the side walls and the picture roll and Winding shaft.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HENRY C. ENGLAND.
