Still further objects of my invention reside in the provision of a display stand which may be readily supplied to a supporting base, such as a show case, particularly of the character which includes glass sides and thin supporting frames, the display stand being capable of being associated with this typeof show 30 case Without detracting from the display area of the show case, and which may be readily and quickly attached thereto without danger of injuring, breaking or marring any of the fragile parts of the existingcshow case. It is contemplated by my invention to provide a self-sustaining single standard display stand which may be associated with a show case and rigidly supported thereon, and conveniently attached, the device ineluding attaching and supporting, base mounting means capable of overcoming the difficulty incident to the irregularities of composite structures, glasses of show cases.
Still further objects of' my' invention reside in the provision of a self-sustaining,

This member preferably comprises laterally and frontallydisposed legs 32 and 33, respectively, arranged in the preferred form in substantially right angles to each other. Centrally of this base I -provide'a channel 34 of the-same size and shape as the frontal section 16 wherebythe standard 10-may be disposed thereon. The standard 10 may therefore be rigidlydisposed between the front section' base'i 16a and the plate 17 joined to each other by the fastening elements 35, having screw engagement in the orifices 36 in the base 16a. These fastening elements may be substituted, if desired, for the bolt andwing nuts previously referred to in theembodiment illustrated in Figures 1, 2 'and.3. "The lateral legs 32 and 33 may be used asdescribed and be supported upon a showcase 14, and where the same is level throughout, serve to augment the lateral and frontal support provided by the plate 17. If desired,the fastening elements 25 may be omitted and the base-16a itself serve to support the standard 10 in its upright position. In this event, thebac-k plate 17 attached to the base 16m serves as a rearward stop for the display device, preventing forward sliding movement when assembled with a display element such as a show case 14. In its preferred form, however, particularly where the show case 14 has its top provided with a glass plate 14a at a substantially lower layer than the upper rail lllnfor purposes of leveling the entire device in the supporting position, it: is preferred that the legs, such as 32 and 33, be provided at their under-surface with a channel 37, longitudinally of there spective. branches. As in the embodiment described in Figures 1, 2 and 3, the plate 17 may be affixed to the frame 26 with similar results, augmented by the stabilizing features of the laterally and frontally disposed legs and the leveling members included thereby.
In Figures 7 8 and 9, I have illustrated another embodiment ofmy invention wherein there is interchanged for the frontal section '16 a base generally referred to as 16b. The standard and display shelve elements as previously described and illustrated may have associated w'iththerear plate 1'Z, the frontal base member 165, cooperating with the plate 17 to vertically dispose'the display shelf. In its preferred form, the base 162; comprises lateral legs 32a and frontal legs 33a. It is preferredgthat this entire assemblyfbe made of metal stampings or bent metal straps of substantially the same thickness and depth, capable of being knocked down for storage or shipping purposes and made from single stock material to provide maximumi manufacturingeconomy. To each plate 49 and" the inwardly turned 58 cooperatingwith the lips 50, previously described, to form a hinge'by thevpintle 59, serving tojoin the same. :The forward ends of the straps 47, at 60,- serve to hold an extension member 53a, similar in all-respects to the member53, described as associated with the leg 32a. This extension member 53a is held between the" branches 60-in extensible relation by the bolts and nuts 61.
In: this manner, I have provided a frontal scribed and illustrated in Figures', 5 and 6.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 10,
I may omitthe back plate 17 and substitute therefor an additional leg, such as 33b.=

-- Although I have described the extension legs 33aand33bf as preferably hingedlyconnected to the plates 49, I may retainthe desirable features of extensibility and stability obtained by these: legs, as well as that of aligning the standard upon an uneven supporting surface, suchias the showcase, by makingthe strapsforming the legs 33aand 33b integral with the plates i and for pur- 5i poses of assembly orttakingdo wnforshipinent, provide .thesejnie mbers with the parts forming "the plates49 forming members in thenature of angle pieces. 1
In general, I hav'e-thu's provideda display stand and mounting means therefor whereby the same may be assembled upon any sup porting surface quickly and efiiciently, particularly in "connection with a" show case, without detracting from the enera appearextension plate .lncludingmeans to. fasten .anoe thereof, and without materially modityingthe sametozaflixcit rigidly and-effimadly in position Thus I am enabled to inefficiently with, stability for all purposes required by change. of the character; and size of :the'display area, without modification or special preparation-of the supporting area. vHaving thus described my-invention and illustrated its. use, what I -.claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-

Ina display device, a standard arranged to mount display elements or brackets independently, a support therefor adapted to vertically dispose said standard upon asshow case-or the like, comprising,complemental sections arranged-to. embrace the base of said standard, one of said sections comprising an extensionplate including means to fasten said plate to the show case.
2. Ina display device, a standard arranged. tomountdisplay elements or brackets independent, a support thereforadapted to vertically dispose said standard upon a show case or the like, comprising complemental sections arranged to embrace the base of saidjstan-dard, one of saidsectionscomprising an extensionplate including means to fasten said plate to the show case, said plate being channelled to receivejsaid'stand- 311d. 7 1 .1 7 g 3. In a display device, -a standard arranged to'mount display elements or brackets independently, a support therefor adapted to &v'ertically,disp.ose said standard upona show caseor the-like, comprising complemental sections arranged to embrace the base of saidlstandard, one of-said sec tions comprising, an extension plate including'means to fasten said plate: to the show case, said sections having 1 slid-able engaging portions whereby one maybe offset from the other. Ina display device,'a standard arranged to mount display elementsfor'brackets independently,a' support'therefor adapted to vertically dispose said standard upon a show case or the like, comprising complemental sections arranged to embrace the base of said standard,.one of said sections comprising an said plate to the show case, said plate being channeled .ito receive said standard and Inansfor positioning a fastening element nvas ns P s t ons forme Qns id plate whereby the plate-may be attachedalong various heights on said show case.
5.-In a display device, a standard arranged to mount display elements or brackets independently, a support therefor adapted to vertically dispose said standard upon a showcase counter or the like, said support comprising a complemental front section and back section, each of said sections being, channeled to comprise .the general cross sectional contour of said standard, one section comprising a plate having lateral disposed members including means to fasten the same to the show case, and a variable slot and pin engagement between said plate and front section.
6-. In a display device including a standardarranged to mount a display element or bracket, a support therefor, comprising complemental readily disengageable and adjustable front and back sections formed to comprise the general contour of said standard, one of said sections comprising an extension plate arranged to engage a side of a counter or show case and including means to fasten the same adjustably to the show case, the other, of said sections including substantial lateral and frontal stabilizing legs.
17. In a display device including a standard arranged to mount a display element or bracket, asupport therefor, comprising complemental' front and back sections formed to comprise the general contour of said standard,rone of said sections comprisinga plate arranged to engagea side of a counter or show. case, the other-of said sections including substantial lateral and frontal stabilizinglegs, and extensible members included bysaid legs. r

In a display device including a standard arranged tomount' a display element orbracket, a support therefor, comprising complemental front and 7 back' sections formed to comprise the generalcontour of vsaidstandard, one of said sections comprising a plate arranged to engage a side of a counter or show case, the other of said sect ons including substantial lateral and fronstabilizing legs, formed of spaced plates, spacers for said plates and extension membersjdisposed-between said plates, whereby {thev stability of said support may be varied,
and fastening means for said plates, spacers and extension members.

In a display device including a standard arranged to mount a display element or' bracket, a support therefor, comprising complemental front and back sections formed to comprise the general contour of said standard, one of said sections comprising a plate arranged to engage a side of a counter or show case, the other of said sections including substantial lateral and frontal stabilizing legs, said lateral legs being formed 7 of spaced plates, spacers for said plates and extension members disposed between said plates whereby the stability of said support may be varied, and fastening means for said plates, spacers and extension members, said. frontal legs including spaced additional plates, angularly disposed from plates form'- ing the lateral legs. I

In a display device including a stand ard arranged to mount a display element'or bracket, a support therefor, comprising complemental front and back sections formed to comprise the general contour of said standard, one of said sectionscomprising a plate arranged to engage a side of a counter or show case, the other of said sections including substantial lateral and frontal stabilizing legs, formed of spaced plates, spacers for said plates including angle extensions serving to embrace the standard and extension members disposed between said plates, whereby the stability of said support may be varied, and fastening means for said plates, spacers and extension members.
