IMPROVEMENT IN CHEICK-HOOKS FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,444, dated September 19, 1876; application led Febnrary 28, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB B. HUss, Vof Sheridan, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Pulley Check Hook, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, referenoe` being had to the accompanying drawings.'
The object of my invention is to produce a cheek-hook which will give a horsethe full freedom of his head sidewise whileholding up his head in the desired position.
Another advantage obtained with my irnproved check-hook` is the facility with which check-rein is inserted into the hook and withdrawn, as the opening is right on top, and it is therefore not necessary to twist the rein onequarter around, as is the case with the old check-hook.
A further advantage of my check-hook consists in its fastening to the pad-strap of the harness, said fastening being more simple and permanent than any heretofore produced lfor the same purpose.
The check-hook is illustrated more in detail in the plan view, Figure l, the vertical View, Fig. 2, and the perspective view, Fig. 3.
The body of the hook is made of malleable cast-iron or brass. The loop Ais for the backstrap to be attached to. In the opening left between the lip B and the body of the hook is inserted the strap forming the layer for the pad, and fastened thereto by a single rivet through the hole O. Between the standards D and E a narrow opening is left, running diagonally, and large enough to allow of the checkrein to be inserted edgewise. In front of the standard E is placed the pulley or roller F, which will receive the whole strain of the check-rein, and allow the rein to move sidewise with very little friction, and without wearing the rein.
What I claim as my invention is A check-hook7 provided with the lip B, pul ley or roller F, and having a diagonal opening in the top between the standards D and E, all substantially as shown and described.
