UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE.
LEVI BERGER-AND WILLIAM H. BERGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PA..
IMPROVEMENT IN HCOKS FOR WATER-CONDUCTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,403, dated September 19, 1876; application filed February 19, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, LEVI BERGER and WM. H. BERGER, of Philadelphia, in the `county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsyl- `vania, have invented a certain new and useful Water-Conductor Hook; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art tol which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a perspective of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation, With a. waterconductor attached. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section.
The object of our invention is to provide a simple and light hook of malleable iron, or other cast metal, which can be made at slight cost, may be readily driven into a wall and easily withdrawn, and which will not be likely to injure the water-conductor which it is de- -signed to holdl in place.
Our invention consists of a hook, the curved Yportion of which is re-entorced by a rib, so as construction permits said curved portion to be made relatively quite broad and light, the
rib B imparting great strength, with but slight additional weight. C is the Ytang or drive, of tapering or wedge form, enlarged at its junction with the curved portion of the hook to form a driving-head, D. Said head is grooved or abruptly diminished on the side next the drive, so as to form ears d d, by means of' which, through the application. of a claw-hammer or equivalent device, the hook may be easily withdraw when necessary or desirable.
A hook ot' this construction may be made at comparatively slight cost, being very simple and light, and will be found efficient and durable. f
By making the curved part broad an extended holding-surface is presented to the conductor, which is not therefore likely to be dinged or bent by it. The rib B gives the required strength and stability Without adding materially to the weight. The provision of the driving-head, with its ears, affords means of inserting the hook and withdrawing it without injury to the curved portion.
What We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the castmetal Water-conductor hook herein described, consisting of the broad curved part A, re-enforcing rib B, and tang C, terminating in the driving-head D, substantially asshown.
In testimony that We claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 14th day of February, 1876.
