TYPEWRITER FASTENER Filed Nov. 19, 195o ATTORNEYS I Patented Sept. 15, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRY JOHN MUHLFELD, F `NEW YORK, N. Y.
TYPEWRITER FASTENER Application filed November 19, 1930.
ing openings for receiving flanges on studs depending from thek typewriter, the plates having locking means for engaging the flanges on the studs.
The invention also has for an object to provide the plates with aflange substantially parallel with the body of the plate, the flange having an opening for receiving a flange on the stud and the flange on the stud being engageable by the locking means on the plate below the ange on the plate.
Still another object of the invention is to provide the plate with an opening and a flange disposed above the plate and parallel therewith, a locking member being pivoted to the plate movable between the plate and the flange thereon for engaging the stud at its iiange. The locking member is preferably provided with a spring-pressed member for engaging the lplate at a recess therein, the locking member being secured by this means. 'y
Preferably the plate with its ange is cut and stamped from a sheet of metal to form '30 the opening in the plate and the opening in thelflange and to bend the fiange to a position parallel with the plate and spaced therefrom. It will also be understood that the top of the desk or table may be made of metal with the flanges cut and stamped from the top of the desk or table to form integral flanges.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of the invention is d escribed.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views,
of which Figure 1 is a sectional view illustrating a fragment of a table and a typewriter and showing the improved means for securing the typewriter to the table,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the typewriter Serial No. 496,782.
table on a smaller scale showing the fastening means, l
Figure 3 is an enlarged view illustrating one of the fastening means which are secured to the typewriter table,
Figure 4 is a sectional View on the line 4--4 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating one of the studs which depend from the typewriter, and
Figure 6 is a sectional view illustrating the modified form of the invention.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that to the typewriter table 10 there are secured two plates 11, each of these plates 11 having an upwardly extending portion 12 from which extends a flange 13 which is disposed substantially parallel with the body of the plate 11. the body of the plate 11 and there is alsoan opening 15 in the flange 13, the opening 15 being disposed above the opening 14, and in the construction illustrated in Figures l, 2, 3 and 4 the opening 14 is substantially the same size as the opening 15. These openings 14 and 15 are provided for receiving flanges 16 and 17 on a stud 18 which has a threaded screw 19 secured in a threaded orifice 20 in the typewriter 21.
writer 21 so that the studs 18 will depend from the typewriter, permitting the flanges 16 and 17 on each of the studs 18 to pass through the openings 15 in the flange 13, one of the flanges 17 being disposed in the opening 14 and the other flange 16 being disposed in the opening 15 when the typewriter comes `to restl onl the flange 13.
As a `means for securing the studs 18 in position with their flanges 16 and 17 in the openings 15 and 14, kand with the ange 16 fitting the opening 15 to prevent any lateral movement of the studs relatively to the plates It will be understood that the plates 11 may form parts of a top of a There is an opening 14 in 11, locking members 26 are provided which are pivoted at 27, one to each of the plates 11, the locking members 26 having cut-out portions 23 so that the locking members may be disposed around the studs 1S with portions engaging the lower face of the flange 16 and the uper face of the flange 17. By this means any movement of the typewriter relatively to the table 10 is prevented inasmuch as the engagement of the locking member 26 with the flange 17 prevents any upward movement of the typewriter relatively to the table 10 and the engagement of the sides of the flange 16 with the flange 13 at its opening 15 prevents any lateral movement of the typewriter relatively to the table 10.
The rear of the locking member 26 is provided with a tongue 29 which is adapted to engage the plate 11 at its upwardly extending portion 12 and thereby limit the outward movement of the locking member 26 relatively to the flange 13. The locking member 26 also has a handle 30 which is hollow and is. open at its bottom and has a thread meshing in a threaded opening 31 in the locking member 26. Disposed in the handle 30 there is a spring 32 which serves to press a plunger 33 do-wn against a ball 34, this ball being positioned to extend into a recess 35 in the plate 11 when the locking member is moved to the position indicated in Figure 3.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawings, the plate 36 is stamped to eut the plate 36 at 37,l which forms an opening 33 in the plate 36 similar to the opening 111 in the plate 11 and has a bent-up portion which forms a flange 39 similar to the flange 13 in the form oflthe invention illustrated` in Figures 1, 2, 3 and l. At the same time this portion forming the flange 39 is eut away at 40 to form an opening similar to the opening 15 in the flange 13. Cutout orifices l1 are also made in the plate 36 at the same operation. The modified form of the invention illustrated 4in Figure 6 is used in the same manner as is the form illustrated and described in connection with the other figures, the loclino member being shown at 12in the modified form of the invention in Figure 6. It is obvious that the plates -36 may form a continuation of a metal top of a desk and be integral therewith. When this is the case, preferably two flanges 39 will be stamped-up from the table top, each flange having an opening 110.
