The object of the invention is to rovide a printing device with a switch tab o simple constructlon, and a novel method and means for pivotally and permanently securlng the tab to the device.
The invention is adaptable to one piece printing plates as shown, for exam ie,117n y 9 1927, but for the purposes of this application I have shown it embodied in a printingdevice comprising a frame and a detachable printing plate; and referring to the drawings,

Referrin to the drawings the printing plate 7 an a card 8 are removably held on the frame 9 by retaining devices 10 of any suitable kind, the plate bearing embossed printing characters and the card bearing an impression from the plate or any other suitable information.
The body 11 of the frame, Fig. 3, is cut on transverse parallel lines and the keepers 12, 13 are pressed outwardly on opposite sides thereof. The keeper 12 is conveniently located at the back and the keeper 13 at the front of the frame. A section 14 of the frame below the keeper 13 is pressed rearward in substantial alignment with the keeper 12 and is provided with a projection 15 on its front face. The tab 16 is adapted to be inserted behind the upper marginal edge portion of the frame, in front of the keeper 12, behind the keeper 13 and in front of the section 14, and it is provided adjacent its lower end with an Opening 16 to engage the projection 15. projection 15 constitutes a ivot for the tab and the tab is provided wit a projection 17 to engage one of two openings 18 in the frame forholding the tab in one of two adjusted pos tions, as indicated in Fig. 1. The keeper 13 1s pressed outwardly to open position, as shown m Fig. 3, to permit eas insertion of the tab and engagement thereo with the proection 15, after which the keeper 13 is closed or fiattened against the tab, as shown in Fig. 4 to lock the tab in the frame. This constitutes a simple method of securing the tab pivotally to the frame and when the keeper 13 is flattened to or about its ori 'inal position in the body of the frame it will securely and permanently hold the tab in place, at the same time permitting it to be readilv and easily adjusted to either of its two index positions.
The frame may also be provided with means indicated generally at 19 to receive one or more detachable index tabs 20. It will be apparent that the invention may be applied to a one piece printing device in substantially the same manner as it is applied to the printin device of the form shown.
e invention provides for secur'ing a pivoted switch tab permanently to a printing device in a simple manner for use in enlarging a classification, to indicate specific conditions, to operate the selector mechanism of the printing machine, or to accomplish all of 'these results. The projecting portion of the switch tab may be colored or otherwise distinguished for classification purposes. It may be desirable to change the Construction and arrangement of parts to satisfy different conditions and I reserve the right to make all such changes as come within the scope of the following claims.
I claim 1. A printing device comprising a frame cut on parallel lines adjacent one marginal edge thereof to form two keepers connected to the frame at their ends and arranged one above the other, a projection on the frame below the keepers, the keepers being bodily offset from top to bottom thereof on opposite sides of the frame with respect to the plane thereof to permit a tab to be freely inserted into the keepers and engaged with said projection.

A printin device having two keepers arran 'ed one a ove the other and a rojection thereunder, and a tab engaged 1n said keepers and having an Opening cngaged with said projection, said keepers being bodily ofi'- set on opposite sides of the body of the device with respect to the plane thereof to permit the tab to be freely inserted in the keepers and engaged with said projection, one of said keepers adapted to be depressed into substantially the plane of the body of the device and upon the tab to clamp the tab between itself and the other keeper and i-n permanent engagement with said projection.

A printing device having two keepers arranged one above the other and a projection thereunder, and a tab cngaged in said keepers and having an Opening engaged with said projection, said keepers being bodily offset on opposite sides of the body of the device with respect to the plane thereof to permit the tab to be freely inserted in the keepers and engaged With said projection and the keeper nearest the projection being depressed' into substantially the plane of the: body of the device and upon the tab to clamp the tab between itself and the other keeper and in permanent engagement with said pro'ection.

A printing device having two eepers arranged one above the other and a pivot projection thereunder, and a tab engaged in said keepers and having an Opening engaged with' said projection, said keepers being of greater length than the'width of the tab to allow for p1v0ta1 movement of the tab in the keepers and said keepers being disposed with relation to each other to prevent disengagement of the tab from said projection 5. A printing device comprising a frame cut on arallel lines adjacent one marginal edge thereof to form two keepers connected to the frame at their ends and arranged one above the other, the keepers being bodily ofiset from top to bottom thereof on opposite sides of the frame 'with res ect to the plane thereof, a sec-tion of the fiame below the lower keeper bein pressed outward on the same side of the rame as the upper keeper and in substantal alignment therewith, said section having a projection thereon extending in the direction of the lower keeper, said keepers and section being arranged to permit a tab to be freely inserted therebetween and said projection being arranged n the path of insertion of the tab and adapted to be engaged thereby.

A printing device comprising a frame cut on parallel lines adjacent one marginal edge thereof to form two keepers connected to the frame at their ends and arranged one above the other, the keepers being bodily ofi' set from top to bottom thereof on opposite sides of the frame With respect to the plane thereof, a section of the frame below the lower keeper 'being pressed outward on the same side of the frame as the upper keeper and in substantial alignment therewith, said section having LPI'OJGCtOIl thereon extend ing in the direction of the lower keeper, said keepers and section being arranged to permit a tab to be freely inserted therebctwecn and said projection being arranged in the path of insertion of thc tab and adapted to be engaged thereby, the lower keeper adapted to be depressed into substantiaily the plane of the bod of the device and upon the tab to clamp tie tab between itself and the upper keeper and said section and in permanent engagement with said projection.
