The bracket 10 is formed with a flat bottom 18 forl resting upon a table or bench, and being attached thereon. `The 'means .for closing the lever 14 con-v sistsof a radialarm 36 having one end connected coaxially on the lever 14 and a connecting link 37 eXtended downwards and con.- nected'with any conventional foot; pedal not shownon the drawing. .1 The seam spreader 16 has a pointed horizontal portion 38 adapted toengagein the seam and spread the two edges open. A screw 39 supports the seam roller 15 in opposite directions vfor pressingv the seam in several stages and moving the roller forward more than Ybackwards so that the seam is moved forwards. This means consists of a shaft 43 supporting the driver roller 15 and vformed at one end with a knurl-ed portion 44. A large drum 45 loosely'engages the knurled portion 44 and carries coupling jaws 46 slidably arranged, so vthat in depressed conditions rotations from the drum 45 are communicated to the shaft 43. A spring 47 is secured upon the drum V45 and engages the'jaw 46 so as to normally urge it into a slightly extended position constituting the disengaged condition of the jaw.
A band 48 encircles the drum 45 and is adapted for depressing the jaws 46 into their operative conditions. This is accomplished by a spring 49 acting between the ends 50 of the band kfor normally contracting it. A rod151v isslidably mounted upon the lever 14 and passes thru one ofthe ends'50 and engages against the other of the ends so that upon forward motion, vit may spread the ends'for yslightly opening the'band.l The 5 end 50 thru which the rod 51 slidably passes is Xed asiat 52 upon the lever 14. V*A'spring 53.y acts between therod 51 and the'lev-er 14 for normally Vurging the rodY rrearwards against, a small Wheel 54 fixedV upon ashaft 55 carrying a pulley 34 engaged by the said belt 35.` Y The small wheel 54 is provided with approjecting camportion'56 extending about one quarter of its periphery.A A pin 57 eccentrically projects from the small wheel 54 and 'i supports one end of a connecting rod 58 whose other end is supported'upon a pin 59 eccentricallyl mounted uponthe large.

VVThis rocking motion 1s transmitted to the presser roller 15. Each `time* the drum 45 to idle during part of its oscillations. Obviously, for each rotation of the wheel 54the drum 45 goes forward and backwards but in the backward movement only part `'of the motion is transmittedto the presser roller l5 which causes the seam being pressed to advance.
In operation of the device, a trouser leg, as schematically indicated by dot and dash lines 62, is` engaged upon the lateral projection 12 so that the seam 63 engages upon the idler roller 13. Then the pedal is depressed for moving said lever to bring said rollers into pressing engagement, so that the driver roller 15 engages the seam. The spreader 16 vopens the seam and the material being pressed is dampened by drops from ythe Acontainer 40.1..- When the seam is completely pressed, the pedal is released so that thevlever 14`opens-.Yl `-N'ext the trouser leg is turned thru an angle of 180 degrees. so. that the other seam 64 may be similarly pressed.V
