LINGERIE FASTENING DEVICE Filed March 50, 1931 l Patented Sept. 8, 1931 ANNA. BLUM AND ELLA. BLUM, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS LINGERIE FASTENING DEVICE Application filed March 30, 1931. Serial No. 526,152.
Our invention belongs to that general class of devices known as fastening devices and relates more particularly to a clasp or fastening device for securing or fastening ladies wearing apparel and more particularly for securing the straps of lingerie in place on the shoulder of the wearer and preventing the same from dropping down over the shoulder. The same is adapted to secure a single strap or a plurality of straps as the case may be, the preferred construction being such that the device may be attached or removed from the outer garment to which it is ordinarily secured when in use and upon which it ordinarily remains. The same is constructed to permit the application of the same to the straps of the undergarment after the overgarment has been put on. l v
The device has among its objects, the production of a device of the kind described that is simple, convenient, attractive, inexpensive, comfortable, efficient and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.
More particularly, the same has as an ob- 'j ect, the production of a device that will function without danger of tearing the garments and which may be easily and conveniently applied to the garment and tothe lingerie straps.
Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilledin the art from f the disclosures herein given. Y
To this end, our invention consists inthe novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. Y i Y In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts:
illustrating its use;
Fig. l is a perspective view of the device Y plied in use, a portion of shown in section; j
Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the device;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the Vline 4 4 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 5 5 of Fig. 3 and Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing a portion of the device embodying a slightly modified construction.
The preferred form of the device comprises the" combination of a bar or clasp l through which the lingerie straps extend, the fastening device 10 arranged to be secured to the overgarment and iieXible members 9-9 connectingthe clasp 1 andthe fastening device 10. Y As shown, the clasp or'bar lconsists of a plate 2 which, in the construction shown, is turned back'at one end as indicated at 3 the garment being and looped back at the opposite end as indi- 6 lcated at 4 and 5, the extreme end 6 in this particular construction being adapted to detachably engage Vwith the end 3 so that when, the parts are snapped together as shown, they will be held in closed position. may be as ornamental as desired in its construction details.
Extending from each end of the clasp is a flexible member 9, chainsbeing shown for the purpose which connect with and are secured to the Vfastening member 10. As shown, member 10 is'substa-ntially a clamping device and consists of a platell, and cooperating memberV 18'. The members 9 are secured to the plate by means of jajump ring 12, or
and varied Vthe equivalent, engaging at the openings 15,
the rim or flange 13 of the plate being cut away as indicated at 14 so that the ring will not project above the rim. Arranged on one l of the parts as shown on the plate 11 is a stud 16 which is pointed or sharpened at the end as shown at 17, the intermediate portionbe- The clasp l ing threaded for engagement with Vpart 18.
As shown, the part 18 is provided with a groove 19 thereabout thesame for convenience in grasping and turning. 1t may be mentioned that part 18 may be made of fine material or of material which has been plated or enamelled or otherwise given an ornamental finish.
1n using the device, the fastening member 10 is preferably secured to the outergarment as for example through the seam portion 24: which is at the edge portions 22 and 23 of the material, these being sewed together as indicated at 25. T he part 18 is removed and the stud 1G forced through the material after which the part 18 is turned down in place tightly clamping the material between plate 11 and part 18, the flange or rim 13 affording a firm grip on the material. Ordinarily, the device is placed on the outergarment and per mitted to remain there. Then the outer garment is put on, the clasp is unfastened so that the lingerie straps 21, and there may be several straps for slips, brassiers or other undergarment, may be positioned in the clasp and the clasp closed.
The modified construction shown in Fig. 6 merely illustrates how the material 26 of the clasp may be turned back as at 28 or in an equivalent manner for attachment to the chain 27 so that it is not necessary to punch holes in the plate 2.
It will be noted that with this construction, the fastener on the shoulder is comparatively small; that there is only one small perforation through the material of the outer garment made by means of the upright or vertical threaded pin; that there is no gathering or bunching of the material at the fastening device or slipping of the same thereon as in the case of a pin or similar fastening device looped through the material as would be the case of a safety pin or like construction. The iiexible connection permits the clamp to be offset relatively to the seam thereby avoiding unnecessary thickness or pressure on the shoulder at the seam and in a case of light material in the outergarment, causing a bunch thereat. The flexible members also make the device more comfortable in use to prevent binding and to a very great extent facilitate the attachment of the device to the outergarment or the positioning and securing of the straps in the clasp. Obviously, the part 18 may be enamelled or finished to correspond in color with the material of the outergarment and in this instance, may even be disposed on the outside of the garment without disfigurement. Obviously, the flexible connections or chains, or whatever may be used, may be made of a desired length as some may prefer a longer connection and others a shorter. Vtlhile in the construction shown, the part 18 and plate 11 are'secured together by a threaded stud, obviously, any equivalent construction may be employed such as a friction fastener similar to a glove fastener. Ordinarily, however, the construction shown is preferred as it may be firmly secured in place, with the strain, if any, on the material .of the outergarment extended over the full size of the plate 11 rather than just at the stud 16. As a matter of fact, the garment is clamped or gripped between the flange 13 and the member 11, the stud extending through the material clamping the two parts together and maintaining them with sufficient strength as to firmly grip the material. rihe device is therefore less apt to injure the material than if reliance was placed on a safety pin or similar type of fastening member.
Having thus described the invention, it is obvious what we claim as new and desire to cover byv Letters Patent is:
1. A device for retaining lingerie straps against displacement, consisting of a clasp member having a chain secured to each end with the free ends of the chains secured together, and a relatively short stud secured to said ends and a member for engaging the end of said stud whereby when the stud is projected through a piece of material, the material and stud are secured together.
2. A device for retaining lingerie straps against displacement consisting of a plate provided with a stud projecting therefrom, and having its outer end pointed and arranged intermediate its ends for engagement with a cooperating retaining member, the retaining member constructed to receive said stud and engage Vthe same at said intermediate portion, a clasp consisting of a bar looped back upon itself at one end with the free ends detachably secured together, and flexible members extending one from each end of the clasp and secured at their opposite ends to said plate.
3. A device for retaining lingerie straps against displacement comprising a bar clasp member, and a fastener member, with flexible means providing a connection between the ends of the clasp and the fastener member, the fastener member consisting of two parts, one of which is adapted to project through a piece of material-and cooperate with the other part to thereby secure the material and fastener member together. f
4. A device for .retaining lingerie straps against displacement comprising a bar clasp member, and a fastener member, with flexible means providing a connection between theendsof the clasp and the fastener member, the fastener member consisting of two parts, a flange portion formed on one part adapted to engage the other part, one of said parts being adapted to project through a piece of material and cooperate with the other part to thereby secure the material and fastener member together.
5. A device for retaining lingerie straps against displacement consisting of a plate provided with a fiange portion, a stud projectin-g from said plate and' having its outer our names this 27th day of March;y A. D.,
