Description
Sept. 1, 1931. H. E. YYARROW 1,821,868
DISTRIBUTOR FOR PULVERIZED FUEL Filed Deb. 26, 1929 Imam-6R Ha'mld Yarrow ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 1, 1931 PATENT OFFICE,
HAROLD EDGAR YARROW, OF SCOTSTOUiN', SCOTLAND DISTRIBUTOR FOR PULVERIZED FUEL Application filed December 26, 1929, Serial No. 416,619, and in Great Britain November 13, 1929.
The object of this invention is to provide means whereby pulverized fuel from a single pulverizer and its conveying or primary air may be distributed substantially equally be- -31 tween two or more discharge points.
According to this invention the pulverized fuel and conveying air are discharged downwardly through a conveying trunk or pipe upon a substantially horizontal plate or disc contained in a closed casing and having preferably a concave surface, over the edges of which the fuel spills evenly and thence passes inwardly between deflecting vanes into a whirlin chamber leading to a receiving chamber having a plurality of 7 equal and equally spaced discharge outlets. The result of the gyratory movement imparted to the fuel mixture by the inclined or curved deflecting vanes is that the mixture is distributed P1) evenly around the inside of the receiving chamber and each of the outlets gets an equal supply of fuel.
One embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a multiple dis-.
tributor, and Figs. 2 and 3 are transverse sections on lines 22 and 33 respectively of Fig. 1.
In these drawings A is the air trunk or pipe into which the pulverized fuel and its conveying air are delivered at considerable velocity from the pulverizer or by means of a primary air fan from a store of already pulverized fuel, and from which it passes to the multiple distributor which consists of a cylindrical casing H having access hand-holes V spaced around its periphery.
Inside the cylinder is a conical whirling chamber 1) formed of a ring of inclined defleeting blades or vanes C which rest on an internal flange at the bottom of the cylindrical casing H and have their upperends fixed to a steel saucer-shaped plate B.
Below the whirling chamber D is a receiving chamber Fwhich may be in the form of an inverted cone and which has equally spaced around it a plurality of identical discharge outlets G, which may be provided with suitm able valves to close down or regulate the fuel mixture issuing from them.
The quantity of fuel passing. through the distributor may be regulated by means of an annular diaphragm E provided with operating rods extending through the top of the distributor, whereby it can be moved upwards or downwards.
Having thus described the nature of the invention and the best means I know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim 1. A distributor for pulverized fuel, comprising a whirling chamber into which the mixture of pulverized fuel and its conveying air is discharged, means for distributing the fuel substantially uniformly around the outer region of the whirling chamber, fixed deflecting vanes separating the outer from the inner region of the whirling chamber, a receiving chamber located below and communicating with the inner region of the whirling chamber and provided with a plurality of equally spaced discharge outlets.
2. A distributor for pulverized fuel comprising awhirling chamber, means for del vering fuel in a substantially even stream to said whirling chamber, said whirling chamber being provided with a substantially horizontal deflector plate upon-which the fuel mixture is discharged and over the edge of which it falls in a substantially even stream around the outer region of the whirling chamber, and the said deflector plate being'provided with deflecting vanes between which thefuel stream passes into the interior of the whirling chamber, and a receiving chamber located below and communicating with said whirling chamber.
3. A distributor for pulverized fuel according to claim 2, wherein the substantially horizontal deflecting plate is concave or cupped on its upper side.
r 'In testimony whereof I have signedv my name to this specification.
HAROLD E. YARROWV.
