Description
P w. M. BROOKS 1,821,418
SEALINGVMEANS Filed Dec. 16. 19,30
Patented Sept. 1, 1931 PATENT OFFICE WINFEED M. BROOKS, OF WEST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY SEALING MEANS Application filed December 16, 1930.
The present invention relates to a sealing medium, especially of the type used in sealing bags or the like. The main object and feature of the invention resides in the production of a structure that, within certain limits, is applicable to the sealing of a great many sizes of bags, thereby rendering it unnecessary to carry in stock various sizes of sealing media corresponding to the varione sizes of bags.
In the accompanyingdrawings, the invention is disclosed in a concrete and preferred form in which Y Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of one of the side-faces of the seal with the double strand-like sealing means in position;
Fig. 2 is an edge View of the parts shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view in elevation of the sealing medium in position on the eleinent to be sealed; and
Fig. 1 is a view similar to Fig. 3 but at right angles to the latter.
1 indicates a body of sheet material composed of two connected members 2 and 3 here shown as being slightly dished and connected by a neck portion 4: having a weakened zone 5. If desired, the body may have an additional tab 6 connected by means of neck portion 7 to member 2. Each of the members 2 and 3 is provided with two open ings 8 and 9. 1O is'a double'strand sealing means consisting of a cord-like element doubled back upon itself through openings 8 of member 2, and having its free ends threaded through openings 9 of member 3.
By these means, a double loop 11 is afforded at one side face of the body of sheet material. The free ends of sealing means 10 are knotted as at 12 to prevent them from unthreading with respect to member 3.
It will now be understood that loop 11 can be passed about an element, such as bag 13, to be sealed, and that thereafter, if members 2 and 3 are brought toward each other in a direction away from the loop, said loop will be tightened about the bag.
Serial No. 502,674.
if tab 6 is used, said tab will be bent over the previously bent members and it may have a weakened zone 14 in neck portion 7 so that tampering will be detected by a rupture along line 14.
I claim:
A seal comprising: a body of sheet material composed of two connected members, each of said members having two openings for the reception of a double-strand flexible sealing means, a double-strand flexible sealing means consisting of a cord-like element doubled back upon itself through the openings of one member and having its free ends threaded through the openings of the other member to thereby afiord a double loop at I one side-face of the body of sheet material, said free ends being knotted to prevent unthreading thereof with respect to said other member, whereby when said members are folded together in a direction away from the double loop, said double loop is tightcned about the element to be sealed.
Signed at Newark, in the county ofEsseX,
and State of New Jersey, this 10th day of December, 1930.
WVINFRED M. BROOKS.
