The principal object of this inventio-n is to provide a rocking horse which, in addition to the rocking motion, will be capable. of giving the rider a forward and back motion, adding to the enjoyment of using it.

Another object of the invention is to provide meanswhereby at the end of each oscillation, pro-vided it is a long enough one, a jolt will be given to the rider, also'for the purpose of increasing his enjoyment. An-

other object of the invention is to provide a rocking horse of extremely simple and inexpensive character.

The rocking horse, as is usual, is provided with a pair of rockers 10 of ordinary or usual construction. They are connected together by a pair o-f cross cleats 12 near the ends of the rockers. These, of course, extend from one rocker to the. other and are secured to them in any desired manner. Members 11 constitute steps from which the child can mount Vinto the seat. This provides for aso-lid structure for the rockers at no great expense.

The two cleats 12 are used to support the rest of the device. At the center of each cleat the end of a long spring 13 is secured, preferably on top. This spring has an upper portion constituting practically half of an ellipse, preferably, and it has rounded ends 14 extending downwardly under the rockers and between them and then it is brought upward and is secured to the cleats 12 as shown. On this is mounted a seat 15 and means by which the child can hold on, as by the representation as shown at 16 of a horses'head and a pair of handles 17. The spring extends from front to rear in o-ne continuous curve.

In the use of this rocking horse it will be seen that the seat is not secured rigidly to the rockers but is yieldingly mounted thereonv so that it will be capable of moving up and down by the. spring and by the force of the actions of the child in the seat and so that it will be capable of moving forwardly and backwardly against the spring in the ordinary oscillation of the device on the rockers. These two movements are desirable as they give a child additional pleasure in using the toy ii() In the preferred form of the invention shown in Figs. l and 2 the ends of the spring 13 extend down below the rockers 10 to provide two spring buers which, when the toy is rocked to the full extent of its stroke, will engage the Hoor and give the rider a jolt. This is a third improvement over the ordinary forrn of rocking horse in which the sea-t is rigid with respect to the rockers.

In the form shown in Fig. 3 the projections 7" 14 are not shown in which case the spring 18 does not have to pass below the rockers but is secured to the cleats 12 at both ends pre-ferably. This is a somewhat simple form of the device because one function of the preferred embodiment is omitted.

Although I have illustrated and described only two forms of the invention I am aware of the fact that other modications can be r made therein by any person skilled in the art 2:' without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claim. Therefore, I do not wish to be limited in this respect but what I do claim is In a rocking horse, the combination of a pair of rockers, a pair of cleats near the front and rear ends connecting them together rigidly, a spring having an upper part extending downwardly at both ends under said rockers and then projecting upwardly and secured to said cleats, a seat mounted on the upper or convex portion of the spring and a handle rigidly mounted on the spring in front of the seat.
