HANGER FOR ELONGATED ARTICLES Filed Aug. 3, 1929 JafiEF 71.
Patented Aug. 4, 1931 JOSEF MARTIN AHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HANGER FOB, ELONGATED ARTICLES Application filed August 3, 1928.
My invention has for its primary object to provide a simple, inexpensive and effective hanger for suspending elongated articles such as scarfs, fur neck pieces and the like from a bar or other support.
To this and other ends my invention in its present preferred embodiment consists of a hanger frame, having by preference a hook at its upper end to engage the ordinary horizontal closet bar, and two substantially parallel cross-bars on the lower end, the upper cross bar forming a clamp, to engage and hold the article to be suspended, and the wiole preferably made of one piece of metallic wire, substantially as hereafter described and claimed.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, 1 shall first describe in detail the mode in which I at present prefer to carry this invention into practice.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this application for patent, in which like parts are designated by the same numbers in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a hanger embodying my invention.
Figure 2 shows a fur neck piece suspended therefrom.
Figure 8 shows a scarf suspended therefrom;
In the specific example of my invention thus illustrated, the hanger is made for simplicity and economy of a single piece of wire bent to form a hook 4 at its upper end to en- 35 gage the ordinary horizontal bar of a closet or another support; a medial frame 5, and parallel cross-bars 6 and 7 at the lower end of the hanger, to engage the article to be suspended.
I prefer to make this form of my hanger by bringing the wire from the hook t downward and outward to form the side member 8 of the frame 5, then crosswise to form one member 9 of the upper clamping cross bar 6, 45 then downward and crosswise to form the lower cross bar 7, then upward and crosswise alongside the member 9 to form the other member 10 of the clamping cross bar 6, then upward and inward to form the other side 50 member 11 of the frame 5, and to a meeting Serial No. 383,208.
with the upper end of the opposite side member S of the frame, around which it is twisted to complete the hanger.
This han er may be conveniently used, as shown in Figure 2 securely to suspend a headed fur neck piece with clamping jaws, by opening the animals jaws to receive the upper cross bar (3, and then inserting the lower cross bar 7, between the extension of the animals lower jaw and the head, thus firmly holding the fur piece against accidental attachment.
his hanger may also be used for suspending a scarf or other long piece as shown in Figure 3, by passing it laterally between the members 9 and 10 of the upper clamping cross bar 6, and letting the piece hang and bear against the lower cross bar 7.
This hanger may be conveniently used in various other ways and may be varied in its detailed construction to suit different purposes, and in all cases forms an extremely simple, cheap and effective device for the purposes for which it is designed.
I ciaim as my invention:
A hanger formed of wire bent to form suspension means at its upper end, a side frame member depending downwardly and outwardly therefrom, an upper cross-clamping member, a side member depending therefrom, a lower cross-member, a side member risingtherefrom, an upper cross-clamping member alongside the other cross-clamping member, and a side frame member rising therefrom to meeting with and fastening to the opposite side frame member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEF MARTIN AHN.
