UNITED STATES PATENT Grrron.
JOEL WEBBER, OF'GEDDES, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-BOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,750, dated August '29, 1876; application filed August 7, 1876.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOEL J. WEBBER, of the town of Greddes, county of Onondaga, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Horse-Boots,-of which the following is an exact and truthful description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which like letters refer to like parts in all of the figures, and in which A is the main part or body of the boot. B is an aperture in A, through which the heel of the hoof protrudes. O is the back loop, through which the ankle-strap D passes. E is the front buckle and strap. F are seams formed by connecting the sides of the gores F, Fig 3, in A.
The object of my invention is to secure the constant contact of remedial and softening agents with the hoof, and is accomplished by means of the sponge or other porous and absorbent material attached in any suitable manner to the inner side of the boot, which is held in place by the buckles and straps, as shown in Fig. 1.
.Fig. 3 represents the blank or pattern of the main portion or bodyA of the boot. The straps may be of the same piece of material as the said main portion,or of different pieces, and attached, by rivets or suitable means, to said main portion, as in Figs. 1 and 2. When constructed of one piece, as shown in Fig. 3, the back loop is formed by the slits shown at O in said figure.
It is obvious that the blank, when out from rubber, may be formed without the gores F, Fig.3, and therefore, in constructing the boot of pure sheet-rubber, (that having no intermediate layers of canvas, it being more elastic,) conforms to the shape of the hoof.
In all styles of construction I retain the aperture for the reception of the heels of the hoof.
I am well aware that sponge and other porous substances have been used for a like pur' pose; but I do not claim that as my invention.
What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A horse-boot body made in one piece, with or without the gores F, and provided with the aperture B, for the reception of the horses heel, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The horse-boot consisting of the main part A, provided with aperture B, back loop 0, ankle-strap D, front strap E, and sponges H H, as shown and described.
, JOEL J. WEBBER.
