Description
L. W. MOSES.
TOE-WEIGHT. No,169,653, Patented-Nov.9 ,1875.
miliwamg 7 ZMWW UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
LUGIUS W. MOSES, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOE-WEIGHTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,653 dated November 9, 1875 application filed June 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that LLUOIUS W. MOSES, of Indianapolis, county of Marion and State of lndiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supports for Toe-Weights, designed to be used on the feet of trotting-horses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
I am aware that toe-weights have been used before, and have been used in connection with bands or boots made of leather. 1 am also aware of a rubber boot with a rubber shoe, all made in one piece to slip over the horses foot.
My invention relates to the combination of a toe-weight with a rubber band or boot, which, being elastic and pliable, will hold the toe weight tight against the for t, and prevent any noise or clatter of the weight against the Foot when the horse is in motion. v
The leather boot or band heretofore used has been of great annoyance in various waysas, for instance, it is impossible to buckle it on the foot tight enough to prevent it from rattling thereon. This produces concussion between the weight and the foot at every step, and is very injurious to the internal structure of the foot; and again, when the leather boot or band becomes wet, it is very loose, and when dry is very stiff and unyielding, all of which I overcome by the use of rubber bands or boots, which will yield to the form of the foot, and can be secured very tight, thus preventing concussionand any action of water, and consequentlythe device is always ready for service.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved elastic boot or band combined with a toe-weight and attached to the foot ofa horse. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
A represents the elastic boot or band buckled at the rear of the foot, as at G, or it may be secured at the side; or it can be in one piece, with no buckle, and secured over the foot by springing it in place. B represents the toeweight, secured to the front of the elastic'band or boot in the ordinary manner.
Persons acquainted with the use of the toeweight on trotting-horses cannot .fail to see the advantages of the elastic boot or band over the old leather ones.
Idonotbroadlyolaimthetoe-weight. Neither do I claim the combination of a toe-weight with a leather boot or band.
What I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, isy In combination with a band or boot formed of rubber or other elastic material, a toeweight, all constructed and operated substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specificationin the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUOIUS W. MOSES.
