Aug. 4', 1931. c. T. DAVIS IA'I'ERNITY CORSET Filed Nov. 13, 1930 Sheets-Sheet -l nmmmnmmnnummun llllm Patented Aug. 4, 1931 CLARENCE T. DAVIS,
WORCESTER ooEsET COMPANY, A oonTonATroikr 0e 0F VJORCESTER, "MASSACHUSETTS, assrenon To Koran MitssA-cnosETTs MATERNITY CORSET Application filed November 11 3, 193(1.
.20 attached -to the folds "of the pleats at This invention relates to a maternity corset, and has for 1ts obgect to provide a front which is elastically extensible both vertically and horizontally, so that it will accommodate itself to the changing form of the wearer. To this end the central part of the corset front comprises a series of pleats extending from the top of the front nearly to the bottom thereof, and overlying these pleats and tacked to the folds thereof by stitches is a wide strip of elastic fabric which is stitched to the top of the corset front and also stitched at its lower end to an elastic abdominal supporting belt section. The pleats of the central pleated section are stitched at their ends to sections of elastic fabric, and, owing to the construction just 2 described, the corset front will be elastically on Au extensible bbth vertically and horizontally.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a front view of a belt corset embodying the present invention, and Fig. 2 a front view of a brassiere corset also embodying the present invention. 7
Referring to the drawings, the back 12 of the corset may be of any well known or suitable construction. The front of thecorset is preferably connected to the back 12 by lacings 13 which may be loosened or tighten- "t ed as may be desired. The corset front comprises a narrow vertical strip l lat one side of the front, connected by the lacings referred to to the back, and which latter may be provided at one edge with a series of eyes 15 to be engaged by books at one edge of the corset front, thus affording a side-opening garment.
In the form of the invention herein shown the front consists of non-elastic side sections 17 and 18, a central section 19 comprising a series of horizontally extending pleats. Overlying said pleats is, in this instance, a broad vertical strip 20 of elastic fabric stitched at its upper end to the top of. the pleated section and stitched at its lower end to an abdominal supporting belt section comprising side elasticfabric sections 21, and a centralv elastic section 22, said belt elastic sections 21 and 22 being connected by non-elastic sections 23. The elastic strip fabric stri "Serial to. 455,448.
its outer edges by "ta-Citing stitche's24, and the pleated sectio'n 19 is stitched at its edges to fij a1'strlpa25 or elastic fab stead of the single broad elastic strip 120, as herein shown,a plural tyof a's'ti'c strips 1 z' i I 1 I t L. l I J E 1 wt. 1 may, if desired, be used in connection with the pleated section.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the corset front is eiasticaliyeeten b vertically, by virtue of the central-"elastic 20 attached to the folds er the 1 9, the loose "pleats; accompleated section 'i'noda ting *tlieii'isel'ves ,J'to any "stretching of the saidelastle stiip Z'O. The front is also elastically extensible horizontally by virtue of the elastic strips 25, to which the pleater section 19 is stitched.
This improved corset may be provided at its top with a brassiere 26, which is stitched at one edge to the back ofthe corset and which comprises a broad vertical strip 27 of elastic fabric, so that the brassiere is elastically extensible horizontally.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:-
1. A corset comprising a central front part consisting of a series of pleats, a strip of elastic fabric overlying said tacked thereto, said strip being stitched at its top to the pleated section, and an elastic abdominal supporting belt section, below the pleated section, to which the lower end of said overlying elastic strip is stitched.
2. A corset comprising a central pleated front section, and astrip of elastic fabric tacked to the pleats of said pleated section, thus rendering said front elastically extensible vertically, and strips of elastic fab ric at the outer sides 7 tion, thus rendering said front elastically extensible horizontally.
3. A corset comprising a central pleated front section, and a strip of elastic fabric tacked to the pleats of said pleated section, thus rendering said front elastically 'extendible vertically, strlps of elastic fabpleats and of said pleated sec-.
oil
extensible horizontally, said elastic strip being attached at its top to said pleated section, and an elastic abdominal supporting belt section to which said elastic strip is attached.
4. A corset comprising a central front part consisting of a series of pleats, a strip of elastic fabric over-lying said pleats and tacked to the folds thereof, said strip bej ing attached at its top to the pleated section, strips of elastic fabric at each side of said pleated section and connected to said pleats, by stitching, and an elastic abdominal supporting belt section, below said pleated section, to which the lower end of said elastic strip is attached.
5. A corset comprising a central front part consisting of a series of horizontally extending pleats, and a Vertical strip of w elastic fabric overlying and attached at its edges to said pleats.
6. A corset comprising a central front part consisting of a series of horizontally extended pleats, and a Vertically disposed g3 strip of elastic fabric overlying and attach ed at its edges to said pleats, said corset also comprising a brassiere part Which is elastically extensible horizontally.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
