This invention relates to fire extinguisher supports.

More particularly stated, the invention relatesto the grenade type of fire extin- 'l guisher and to a holder or support for the grenade. I

, This invention has for its salient object toprovide a support for a grenade so constructed that the grenade can be easily'and readily removed therefrom and, furthermore, so constructed and arranged that in case of fire the grenade will automatically 'd-rop, break, and dispense the fire extinguishing fluid. v

- Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket or holder for grenades comprising few parts and a structure that can be economically manufactured.

Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection .with the drawings, which form apart of this application, and in [which Fig.1 is an elevational view of support FY25 constructed inaccordance with the inventionshowing a grenade supported thereby;

.This invention briefly described consists of a supportfor fire extinguisher grenades having means connected to a bracket or plate for engaging and supporting the grenade. The supporting means consists of a pair of members which engage the grenade and are Qconjointly effective in supporting the grenade in position, oneof the members being movable and being held in grenade engaging position by fusible means adapted to melt or give way in case of fire.

' Further details of the invention will appear from the following description.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. land 2, the grenade support comprises a bracket or plate having a shelf 11 struck out from the material thereof and .bent laterally and provided with an opening 12 for receiving the lower end of the grenade. An arm or grenade retaining member 15 is pivoted'on lugs 16 formed on the bracket 10 and has its outer end dished,

as shown at 18. A spring 20 is carried by the pivot pin 21 on which the arm 15 is pivoted and one end of the spring engages the. bracket 10 and the other end engages the arm 15. The spring 20 tends to raise the arm 15 but the arm is held in engagement with the top of the grenade by a fusible link 23 connected at one end to a lug 24 carried by the arm and connected at the other end to a lug 25 carried by the plate It will be noted that the arm 15 is longer than the shelf 11 and the grenade is therefore supported in inclined position. In case of fire the fusible link 23 will melt, thus releasing the arm 15 which will be swung upwardly by the spring and the grenade will fall and break.

The structure shown in Fig. 3 is similar to that shown in Fig. 1 except that the shaft 31 is pivoted at 32 to the bracket 10 and is held in engagement with the lower end of the grenade by a fusible link 38. The arm 35, preferably formed of resilient material, is secured at 36 to the plate 10 and the dished end 38 rests on the top of the grenade.

In case of fire the shelf 31 will be released by the fusible link and will swing downwardly on its pivot, thus releasing the grenade.

It Wlll be obvious that a grenade su ported as shown in Figs. 1 to 3 can e easily removed from the support by a lateral pull or by lifting the grenade slightly to release the lower end from the opening in the shelf.

By the term grenade as used in the specification and claims is meant a frangible container having a fire extinguishing fluid therein.

Although certain specific embodiments of the invention have been particularly shown and described, it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.

A support for frangible fire extinguisher grenades comprising a supporting plate, a shelf member extending laterally therefrom and adapted to receive the lower end of a grenade, and a member carried by the plate and of a sufficient length to extend over the top of the grenade and to hold the grenade on the shelf in a position inclined outwardly away from said plate, said members being conjointly effective to support the grenade, one of said members being movable to release the grenade, and heat responsive means normally retaining said movable member in grenade engaging position.

13. A support for frangible fire extinguisher grenades comprising a supporting plate, a shelf member extending laterally therefrom and adapted to receive the lower end of a grenade, and a curved member carried by the plate and of a sufficient length to extend over the top of the grenade and to hold thegrenade on the shelf in a position inclined outwardly away from said plate, said members being conjointly effective to support thegrenade, one of said members being movable to release the grenade, and heat responsive means normally retaining said movable member in grenade engaging position.

A support for frangible fire extinguisher grenades comprising a supporting plate, a shelf extending laterally therefrom and adapted to receive the lower end of a grenade, a movable member carried by the plate and of a sufficient length to extend over the top of the grenade and to hold the grenade on the shelf in a position inclined outwardly away from said plate and fusible means for holding said member in grenade engaging and holding position.

A support for frangible fire extinguisher grenades comprising a supporting plate, and a pair of members carried by said plateand projecting laterally therefrom, one of said members being movable to grenade releasing position, restraining means therefor, effective under the action of heat to "release said member, said members having portions adapted to engage the top and bottom of a grenade and conjointly support the grenade in upright position, the grenade engaging portion of the upper member being spaced a sufficiently greater distance from the plate than the grenade engaging portion of the other member, as to support the grenade in a position to drop by gravity upon release thereof by said movable member.

16. A support for frangible fire extinguisher grenades comprising a supporting plate, a pair of members carried by said plate and projecting laterally therefrom, one of said members being movable to grenade releasing position, restraining means therefor,effective under the action of heat to release said member, said members having portions adapted to engage the top and bottom of a grenade and conjointly support the grenade in upright position, the grenade engaging portion of the upper member being spaced a sufiiciently greater distance from the plate than the grenade engaging portion of the other member, as to supportthe grenade in a position to drop by gravity gpon release thereof by said movable memr.

In a fire extinguisher, a grenade holder comprising an upright member, a shelf connected'to the upright member and disposed at an oblique angle to its vertical plane upon which the grenade may be releasably seated and a retaining member fusibly connected to the upright member for overlying and embracing or partly embracing the grenade.

18. In a fire extinguisher, a grenade holder comprising an upright member, a

self connected to the upright member and disposed at an angle to its vertical plane, said shelf having a downward-forward inclination and a retaining member fusibly connected to the upright member for overlying and embracing or partly embracing the grenade.

19. In a fire extinguisher, a grenade holder comprising an upright member, a

shelf, connected to the upright member and disposed at an oblique angle to its vertical plane, on which the grenade may be seated, said shelf having an apertured recess for the base of the grenade, and a retaining member fusibly connected to the upright member z for. overlying bracing the grenade; l
