HATCH, a citizen of the-United States, residing at Boston, inthe kcounty of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, havepinvented `L new and useful Fire-Extinguisher Bracket; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas lwill enable others skilled in fthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to supporting brackets for ire extinguishers of the type which discharge when inverted, and has for its objectto provide a bracket ofthis character which is pivotally mounted on a bearing to one side of the vertical center line ofthe tire extinguisher and the bracket and held in vertical position by a fusible member, which member when subjected to heat fuses and allows the bracket and the fire extinguisher to pivot downwardly by gravit-y to an inverted position, and to a `position where the fire extinguisher will discharge its contents.
A further object is to provide abracket with spring clips, which receive and hold the nozzle end of the discharge pipe carried by the lire extinguisher,thereby causing an upward discharge of the fluid from the fire extinguisher.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides :in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed', without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the bracket, showing a fire extinguisher disposed therein and held in normal vertical position.'
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the bracket showing a fire extinguisher held therein, said section being taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the bracket.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of a portion of the bracketand the fusible Figure 5 is a detail sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates a plate adapted to be secured by means of screws 2 to a wall 3.` Plate 1 substantially centrally thereof is provided with a boss l extending outwardly from said boss and in a horizontal position is a supporting 'arm 5, the upper side of which arm is provided with' a knife edge 6. rllhe arm 5 extends through an aperture 7 in a bracket 8, whichvbra'cket is normally supported on the. knife edge ofthe arm, thereby forming a bearing on which the bracket 8 ywill easily pivot to an inverted position. ,The aperture? 'is disposed to oney side vof the vertical center of the bracket 8 and therefore it will be seen that the bracket when released will swing downwardly in the direction of the arrow a to an inverted position. Bracket 8 is provided with a downwardly extending projection 9, the inner face of vwhich is provided with a lug 10, which is spaced from the platel. Pivot-ally connected at 11 to the plate 1 is a holding arm 12, which arm comprises members 13 and 14 which are held together by means of fusible material 15. The member 141 of the arm 12 is provided with an aperturey 16 which receives the lug 10 of the projection 9, and consequently allows the arm 12 to f prevent pivotal action of the bracket 8. ln case of fire the heat within a room or building will cause the fusible material 15 to fuse, thereby allowing the pivoted bracket Sto pivotdownwardly in the direction of the arrow t until it assumes an inverted position to that shown in Figures 1 and 2, the purpose of which will suddenly appear.
Thebracket 8 at a point above the pivotal point thereof is provided with a socket 17, which socket receives the lower end 18 of the fire extinguisher 19. The fire extinguisher 19 is of that type which when inverted discharges the contents thereof through a flexible discharge hose 2O having a'no'zzle 21 when the fire extinguisher is turned upside down. The bracket 8 is provided withfset screws- 22 which hold the fire extinguisher in the socket 17 during the inverting operation `and consequently hold the fire extinguisher in operative position after it lhas been inverted. Fire extin guishers as at present constructed have a receive and hold the nozzle 2l in such a manner that after the Ifire ,extinguisher 19 has been'iiisertedthe dischargeencl'of the nozzle willl point upwardly, thereby allowing the iuid to discharge from the re ,extinguisher in the direction where it will in its fall be spread over largearea.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and `useful is;-
1. A supporting bracket for an invertible re extinguisher, said bracket comprising a plate, la ire extinguisher receiving member horizontally .pivoted to said plate at a point off` center,V means for detachably securing the fire extinguisher to the re ex` tinguisher receiving member at a point above its pivotal point, a downwardly extending arm carried by the `ire extinguisher receiving member .and disposed below its pivotal point, al fusible member pivotally connected ,to the platea lug carried by the ydownwardly extending arm and adapted t-o enter an aperture of the pivoted fusible member, the pivotal point of the re extinguisher receiving member being at one side ,of the center linev thereof thereby allowing the device as a whole to assume an inverted position upon fusing lof Athe fusible member. 2.' A supporting bracket for invertible iire extinguishers, said bracket comprising a plate, a horizontally disposed arm carried by said plate and having its upper edge provided with a knife blade bearing, a tire extinguisher receiving and holding bracket mounted on said arm, means for detachably securing said ireextinguisher to said holding bracket at a. point above the horizontally disposed arm, a downwardly extending arm carried by said holding bracket, a fusible member connecting said downwardly ex- ,tending` arm to the plate and. means carried by the holding bracket for holding the nozzle of the discharge pipe of the tire extinguisher when the same is inverted by gravity.
