The present invention relates to 'im rovements in vaporizers, and has for an object to provide an improved vaporizer for use in converting ducing woods or materials into vapor to be breathed for assuaging irritations of the throat and other membranes.
It is another object of the invention to provide an. improved vaporizer of an attractive and simple constructiomwhich may be bought at small cost, has a' relatively large vapor producing capacity, and will form an attractive article in a household.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particu- `larly pointed out in the claims appended hereto. v

Figure 4 is zt-'l similar view taken on the line 4+4 also in Figure 2, with the oil lamp removed.
Referring more particularlyto the drawings, 5 designates a ring base being open internally and having an inwardly projecting flange 6 at its upper edge. The flange 6 defines a circular opening through which the reduced base 7 Aof the glass or other lamp 8 is received. The body of the lamp 8 is adapted to rest upon the concave inner wall 9 of the base iange 6, as shown in lFigure2.
It will also be observed from Figure 2 v that the reduced base of the lamp is of dove tail form', that is, the dia-meter at the upper portion of the base 7 is smaller than the diameter atthe lower part thereof, and the external wall flares outwardly and downwardly in the frustum of a cone. This conical or dove tail external wall cf the lamp base cooperates 50 with an undercut bevel face 10l on the-ange pine, pitch and similar vapor pro! 6 to avoid the tilting of the receptacle 8 to such an extent as to permitits falling out of the lamp holder.
lVithin the lamp receptacle-8 is contained a quantity of fuel in which the wick l1 is 55 immersed,'the end of the wick being brought up through a stopper 12 and exposed for being lighted.
Above the flame of the lamp is a supporting ring 13 held by arms 14 carried by the base 5 60 or its flange 6, and extending about the yoil receptacle 8.
The ring 13 is adapted to support a cup 15 having riveted or otherwise secured to the central" portion of its bottom a stem 16 in the 65 form of a small inverted pan, which is adapted to fit snugly within the ring 13 and retain the cup 15 in place.V The cup is adapted to contain pieces of the pine wood, pitch or other material, indicated at 17.
The receptacle is closed by a cover 18 having an external flange 19 to iit snugly over the out-turned reinforced edge 2O of the cup 15, whereby to form a tight joint to avoid the leakage ofvapor.
In the cover 18 is a nozzle 21 tapering upwardly and projecting up from thegcentral portion of the cover 18. Over the nozzle 21 is placed in inverted position a cap 22 of glass or other appropriate material, the rim 8o of which is adapted to rest upon the cover 18,*while the bottom of the cap 22 lies above the upper open end of the nozzle 21. This cap 22 is also spaced away from the side walls of the nozzle 21.
In the use of the device, the cover 18 is removed, a quantity of pine wood, pitch or othervapor producing material is placed in the cup 15, Which together with the cover 18 constitutes a container for the destructive dis- 9G tillation of such products as are placed'therein. The cover 18 is put in place, and the cap 22 inverted over the nozzle 21. The wick 11 is ignited and the ame will strike within the stem 16 and rapidly heat the contents of $5 the container. The vapor given ofi' will collect in the container, ascend through the nozzle 21 and enter the 'space about the nozzle and within the cap 22.l From time to time, this cap 22 may be removed, and the patient 111l may apply his nostrils in proximity to the upper open mouth of the'nozzle 21, inhaling the vapor which will be found to have a soothing effect on the affected membranes. After this action, the cap 22 is restored to place, whereby the diffusion of the vapor in the atmosphere will be avoided, and ample space will be allowed within the cap for the collection of a dense mass of the vapor, which may act to produce a quick and strong application.
If preferred, the lamp may be left burning all Iughtvin the bedroom, and the cap 22 removed, so that the indoor atmosphere of the sleeping quarters will be permeated by the pine or other vapor.
It will be obvious that many changes in the construction, combination and. arrangement of parts could be made, which could be used Without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not mean to limit the invention to such details, except as particularly pointed out in the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent ofthe United States is 1. An improved vaporizer comprising a ring base having a iiaiige'projecting inwardly from the upper edge thereof, with a concave seat on its upper inner portion and a bevel face on lits lower inner portion, a lamp seated upon said concave seat and having a downwardly projecting reduced base portion of frusto conical form fitting withln said flange and cooperating with said bevel face and a container supported by the base above the lamp.
2. An improved vaporizer comprising a base` a lamp thereon. a container suspended by the base above the lamp, an upwardly tapering nozzle projecting up from the upper portion of the container, and an imperforate cap of greater height than the nozzle and of greater diameter than the external diameter of said nozzle placed in removable inverted position above the nozzle, with the rimportion of the cap resting upon the con- I tainer about the nozzle. v v' l Mns.
