Description

July 28, 1931. F. w. NITTEL 1,816,810
CHAIN BRACELET Filed May 13, 1951 Patented July 28, 1931 l tfFlCE FFEDERICK W. NITTEL, OF ATTLEBRO FALLS, MASSAGHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO M S CO.
OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS CHAIN BRACELET Application filed May 13,
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in chain bracelets and more particularly pertains to a fastener or the like for releasably holding one end ot the bracelet so that the latter may be lengthened or shortened as desired.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved catch for the purpose mentioned and one which can be easily and 1'0 quickly manipulated and which at the same time is of simple and economical construction and reliable and etlicient in action.
The invention has further and other ob jects which willbe later set forth and manitested in the course of the following description.
The drawings:
Figure l is a top plan view of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side edge elevation; and
Figure 3 and Figure 4 are sections on lines 3 3 and 4--4 of Figures 1 and 2 respectively.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a body l is provided which is formed of sheet metal and is of lsubstantially rectangular cross section as shown in Figure 4. The top of the body is extended to form a hook 2-which is adapted to engage over the usual side bar B of a wrist watch `W. A substantiallyO-shaped bale or latch 3 is pivoted on a pin 4 to the .sides of the bodyy l and has its forward edges 5 formed to engage the hook 2 so as to close the latter and thereby prevent disengagement of the body from the wrist watch. Teats 6 are struck out from the sides of the body and are form-ed to engage in struck-out sockets 7 by springi ing thereinto, the sockets being formed in the sides of the latch member 3. Referring to Figure 4 of the drawings it will be seen that the bottom of the body l is centrally split throughout its length to form two sections or parts 8, each part being formed with an opening 9. The bottom of the body is thus formed of two completely separated and independently movable parts and since the entire structure is formed of spring material, these parts are capable of spring-like movement. The pin 4 on which the latch 3 is pivoted has one end 10 of a snap catch 11 mount- 1931. Serial No. 536,987.
ed thereon so that the catch can be swung from the full to the dotted line position of Figure The catch is provided with lingers l2 that have cam-like edges 13 and shoulders 14, the lingers being receivable in the openings 9. A linger grip l5 is formed on the catch l1 and is disposed between the iingers l2.
The chain bracelet C as shown is of the two strand variety although other' mesh or open types susceptible of use with one or a pair of lingers may be employed. In operation, it will be seen that upon movement of the catch ll. trom the dotted line to the full line position of Figure 3 and with one end of the bracelet within the body l, the cam-like edges 13 of the lingers l2 will engage the outer side edges of the yieldable parts 8 of the bottom ot the body and due to theI fact that these parts are readily flexiblepsame will be caused to approachone vanother until the shoulders 14 snap past the parts 8 whereupon the latter will springoutwardly and enga ge against the shoulders, thereby holding the latchin position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bracelet fastener composed ofa hollow body formed to receive one end of a bracelet therein, and having its bottoni split to form a pair of opposed flexible parts and each oi said parts being formed with an opening, a catch pivoted to the body and having a pair of lingers formed to engage through an end ot the bracelet to hold the latter in the body, said lingers havingtheir inner sides tapered to iorm cams and having shoulders formed to engage over the said parts ofthe bottom of the body, whereby upon movement of the fingers into the body the cam sides thereof will engage the outer sides ot' the said parts of the body bottom to force the latter toward one another until the shoulders snap past the said parts whereupon the latter will spring outwardly and engage the shoulders to latch same in position, and a finger cngaging part carried by the said catch and disposed between the fingers thereof and catch and disposed between the lingers thereof and n projecting outwardly therefrom.
' n 2. .A bracelet fastener composed of a hollow f body formed to receive one end of a bracelet therein, and having its bottom split to form a pair ofopposedflexible partsand eachof said partsbeingformed withLan opening, .and a catch pivoted to the body and havinga pair Y of lingers formed to engage through an end ofthe bracelet to hold the latter inthe body, Said fingers having one of their sides tapered"l to form cams and having shoulders formedto engage over the said parts of the bottom of" the body, whereby upon movementofthe fui,-J m gers into the body the cam sides thereof will engage theadjacenteides offthefsaid'parts of thebody' bottomto force-the latter tow-ard one another,l until the shoulders snapzpastthe sa-id'parts whereupon the latter; will spring 20;, outwardly and engage the shoulders to latch same in position.
'Ajebracel-et .fastener composed of av member formed to receive an end of a bracelet therein;S and;v having-- a; pain offlexible parts each-formed withltanopening, and a catch pivoted tothe body andhavingngersextending through the .openingsfiand through the bracelet. to hold the-latterin the member, said lngere-having sides and shoulders, the
30, cam-sides beinggengageable lwith lsaid parts to move sameto` enable. the;` shoulders to spring pas@ Slydparts yandarethen engaged with the latter upon :return movement of the parts.
4. Aibratcelet fastener composed offa'member formed to Vreceive an endfof at bracelet tlerein, having a ex-ible-part formed with ianfopening, .and a catch pivoted to the body, and, having l finger.` engaging through Y theopening, said Afinger-:havingz :a cam side and E a shoulder, the cam side being engageable with said-,fleXible-part to .move the latter upon in- Y ward movement oftheffinger until the. Shoul;` der snaps past said part whereupontheflatter will returnand ,engage the shoulder.; 5 In testimony, whereof I; have' signed my naine, to thisy specification.
