4 Claims.
The present invention relates to the jewelry art, and has specic reference to a novel bracelet end connectionj- The principal object ofthe invention is to provide a very simple and eITective end connection for a flexible bracelet.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bracelet end connection which lockingly grips the end of a cord bracelet.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bracelet end connection which facilitates adjustment of the length of the bracelet.
With the above and other objects and advantageous features in view, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, and more specifically defined in the claims appended thereto.
In the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a plan View of an illsutrative end connection embodying the invention, locked to one end of a cord bracelet;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the end connection parts in separated relation; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the end connection parts in position for lock engaging the end of a cord bracelet.
It has been found desirable to provide a very simple and effective end connection which facilitates length adjustment of a bracelet. I have therefore devised an end connection which includes a housing to receive the end of a bracelet, a spring element which holds the bracelet end down, and a cover for the housing which bites into and grips the bracelet end, and simultaneously locks the spring element in place, the cover frictionally engaging the housing.
Referring to the drawings, the end connection I0 is illustrated as secured to one end II of a two strand cord bracelet. The end connection includes a box type housing I2, see Figs. 4 and 5, with side walls I3, I4 having inwardly directed flanges I5, I6, the rear end I'I of the housing being open and the forward end I8 having a hinge pin I9 to which attaching links 20, 2l for a catch 22 are pivotally secured.
When the bracelet end II is inserted in the housing I2 through the rear open end, see Fig. 5, an H-shape bowed spring member 23 is positioned over the bracelet end with its end portions having transverse partsl 2li,v 25 seated below the anges I5, I 6 as illustrated in Fig. 4., whereby the -bracelet end is engaged by the spring member and is held in place in the housing. The central portion 2S of the spring member is of a width to provideY spaced slots 21, 28 between the central portion and the flange ends. A cover 29, which has one end rolled to pivotally seat over the hinge pin I9, is providedwith side teeth 30, 3l adapted to enter the slots 21, 28 and bite into and grip the bracelet end, see Fig. 3, when the cover is closed down on the housing; spaced snap lugs 32, 33 on each side of the cover snap seat beneath the flanges I5, I6 to releasably lock the parts together.
The novel end connection thus includes a housing having a cover and a spring holder element, the closing of the cover gripping the bracelet end and locking the bracelet end and the spring holder element within the housing. The end connection is thus of simple and effective construction, of neat appearance as the operating parts are concealed, and of a design which permits manufacture in small sizes such as are required for ladies bracelets.
Although I have described a specific construction embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that changes in the size, shape and arrangement of the parts may be made to suit diierent bracelet requirements, without departing from the spirit or the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claimt 1. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising a housing having side walls with inturned anges, said housing having an open rear end, a spring member adapted to seat in said housing in contacting engagement with a bracelet end inserted into the open rear end of the housing and having parts positioned below said flanges and a portion spaced from and parallel to the ange edges to provide slots between said spring member portion and the flange edges, and a cover hinged to the forward end of the housing and having gripping teeth movable through said slots to grip a bracelet end, said cover having parts releasably snap engaging the housing.
2. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising a housing having side walls with inturned flanges, said housing having an open rear end, a spring member adapted to seat in said housing in contacting engagement with a bracelet end inserted into the open rear end of the housing and having parts positioned below said anges and a portion spaced from and parallel to the flange edges to provide slots between said spring member portion and the flange edges, and a cover hinged to the forward end of the housing and having gripping teeth movable through said slots to grip a bracelet end, said cover having parts releasably snap engaging the housing flanges.
3. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising a housing having side walls with inturned anges, said housing having an open rear end, Y
an H-shaped spring member adapted to seat in said housing in contacting engagement with a bracelet end inserted into the open rear end of the housing and having end portions positioned below said anges and a central portion spaced from and parallel to the ange edges to provide slots between said spring member central portion and the flange ends, and a cover hinged to the forward end of the housing and having gripping teeth movable through said slots to grip a bracelet end, said cover having parts releasably snap engaging the housing.
4. An end connection for a bracelet, comprising a housing having side walls with inturned flanges, said housing having an open rear end, an H- shaped spring member adapted to seat in said housing in contacting engagement with a bracelet end inserted into the open rear end of the housing and having end portions positioned below said flanges and a central portion spaced from and parallel to the flange edges to provide slots between said spring member central portion and the flange ends, and a cover hinged to the forward end of the housing and having gripping teeth movable through said Vslots to grip a bracelet end, said cover having parts releasably snap engaging the housing flanges.
