Fig. 2 is aside view thereof. l fxFig. 53l isa section along the line 3 3 of vcation ofmy invention. Y f kReferring now more particularly to Vthe drawings, reference numeral 10 indicates a i ,wirelike 'element' bent to vform a loop having sides 11 and 12, and a constricted or crimped portion v Each of the parallel portions 111 and12 terminate respectively in ends 14 and15which are' coiled about a flanged sleeveor rivet 16'., The member 16 #S carriesva spacer sleeve 16 so formed as to parallel' U "1930. serial No. 474,515.
holdk loops 10 in spaced relation on the memi i ber 16 as will be read ly understood.
'There are two of these loop members 10, and in cooperation with these members, I
have a U-shaped loop 17 having parallel.' Vportions 18 and 19. These parallel portions terminate in ends 20 and 21, each of which Y is coiled about the shaft `16 between the coiled ends 14 and 15 of the loops 10. This construction `allows for relative pivotal` U-shaped loop 17 and movement between the Vand' theV loop members is apparent Vvfrom The crimped portion ksleeve 16 are raised with respect to thevparallel portions 11 and 12 of 13 `and the rivet or the loops 10 as L the drawing. vThe U-shaped loop 17 is'adapted to enter vthe constricted or crimped portions 13-to vform al resilient Vlock for mai ntaining its arms 18 and'19 inthe position of Fig. 1.V Because of the' raised'relationv ofthe' pivot or sleeve 17 will occupy araise the portions 10 andv 11.
Y116V and the'crimped locking portions 13, the
sidesclSran'd 19 of the U-member d position relatively ,tol
This will confine c the hair as shownin Fig. 1 and will* form a vrpair of wave crests along the line of each of the parallel members 18 and 19.v
Mounted on the pivot 16 1s a comb mounting member 22 which may be of any Vpartic- A ular type for kmounting a comb 23 relatively to `said pivot. This mounting member Vis with a pair of rivets A equipped, preferably` 24 andthe comb is cu mounting member and general.
. J oining'the loop me t out at 25 so that it mayvslide on said rivets relatively to they the waving device inr mbers 10 and 11 at a lpointsubstantially removed from the pivot 116, although not necessarily at -the eXtreme K Vpoint illustrated inFigure 1, 1s Ia narrow platemember 26 which holds the loop memanother.
'bers10in fixed relation relatively lto'one This member 26 is vshapedV shown'in detail in Figure 4 and rides in a slot 27 in the comb 23 whereby the comb will Y slide in definite relatio 10. Y
I will now describe device and its results.
n to each of the loops the operation of my It Will be readily understood that the hair waver when applied to the hair, forms a pair of wave crests by means ofeach of the loops l and the U-member 17 which has the 5 parallel leg portions 18 and 19 traversing the longitudinal center of each of these loops 10. The trough of the wave will be formed at the bases of the teeth of the comb 23 which are located in a plane substantially below that of the crest forming members 18 and 19. A .sliding movement of the comb 23, as quite apparent, will then move the hair comprising the trough of' the wave in a lateral direction relatively to the crests thereof, which are being held in a fixed position, while this lateral motion takes place. This will give the professional waving effect clearly illustrated in Figure 1 comprising a pair of wave crests and a trough, the hair ofthe trough being laterally as well as vertically displaced from the hair of the crests.
Referring now more particularly to Figure 6, I illustrate a modification of my invention wherein the loop members areunsecured as in the position of Figure 1, by a member 26. This allows for a free pivotal movement of each of the loops 10 and 11 relatively to the pivot shaft 16 and the spacer sleeve 16. The comb mounting member 22 is pivoted on this shaft 16 and `carries slidably secured thereto the lusual comb 23 as is described in the first modication. This comb carries a handle portion 28 by which it may be actuated in a sliding direction. This handle 28 has a further function in that it acts to interlock With the loop member 17 to hold the comb in an extended position as is quite Vclear in Figure 6. Whereas I do not show this handle 28 in the modification of Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, it should be understood that the same `may be used therein in the same relation as in Figure 6.
From the above description, the oper-ation and construction of my device should vbe clear. Although I have described but two 'embodiments of my invention, it will be understood that modifications of the same within the scope of the appended claims will readily occur to one skilled in the art. What I claim is 1. 3. An article of the class described comprising a pair of independent loops'having parallel sides and formed of wire-like material, an end shaft, the ends of said loops being secured on said shaft in spaced relation, traversing wires mounted on said shaft and arranged to traverse the longitudinal center of cachot' said independent loops, and a comb slidably mounted relatively to said end shaft for movement between .said pair of loops.
Ll. An article of the class described com prising a pair of independent loops having parallel sides and formed .of -wireslike material, an end shaft, the ends of said loops being secured on said shaft in spaced relation, traversing wires mounted on said shaft and arranged to traverse 'the longitudinal center .of each of said independent loops, and a comb mounting carried on said Shaft kbetween said pair of'loops.
5. In the combination .of claim 4, la comb carried by said mounting and movable relatively thereto.
6. In the combination .of claim 4, a comb carried by said mounting and slidable relatively thereto, means securing said independent' loops at points substantially ro- ,moved from said end ,-shaft, said means forming a bearing for the sliding of said comb.
7. An article .of the .class described comprising a pair of 'independent loops formed of wire-like material, an end shaft, the .ends of said loops being secured on said shaft in spaced relation to each other, a .single vU-shaped Wire pivotally mounted on :said-` shaft, the sides of said -U Wire being aa'- ranged to traverse the longitudinal .center of each of said independent loops, a comb mounting secured to said shaft, and a scomb mounted for sliding movement relatively to said mounting.
8. In the combination of claim 7.,y means securing'v said independent loops to each other at a point substantially removed said end shaft, Avsaid means forming a bear-'- ing portion for said sliding comb.
9. An article .of the class 4described comprising a pair kof independent .loops .having parallel sides and fonmed of wire-like vmapivotal and sliding movement relatively 'to sard shaft.
10. An article of the classdescribed comprising a pair of independent loops having` parallel sides and formed of wire-like material, an end shaft, the ends of said loops being secured on said shaft inspaced relation to each other, a single U-shapedy wire-
