My invention relates to packages or containers for razor blades, and has for its object to provide means to retain a stack or pile of. blades in position to be delivered, succes sively, to a portion of a safety razor when said portion is applied to the package.
In carrying out my invention I provide a container for the blades having one side open for insertion and removal of the blades, and movable means within the container to retain the blades, .said means being operable by studs or projections carried by a blade memher or backing of a safetyrazor when said studs are entered into the container and into openings in the blades therein, whereby to release the outermost blade for delivery to said backing, the said means, when released by said studs, being operative to retain the remainder of the blades within the container. My invention also comprises details of improvement that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.

The registering openings 3a, 4a, and 3b, 4b, are respectively adapted to receive studs or projections 5a, 56 extending from ablade backing or member 5 of a safety razor, the backing being shown'in the form of a well known type of safety razor, (Figs. 6, 7, 8 and 13). Springs 8, which may be pressed out of plate 7, bear against the innermost blade of the stack to resiliently force the latter toward the opening 2 of the container. Blade retainers 9 pass through the registering openings 3a and 4a of the blades and spacers and are adapted to engage the outermost blade ofthe stack when the outermost spacer 4 has been removed. When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2 the outermost spacer 4 will be against the webs 1a of the container and the stops 9' will beagainst the outermost blade, so that the stack of blades will be retained within the container. When the outermost spacer 4; has been removed from the container the stops 9 of the guides 9 will engage the outermost blade and retain the stack of blades, as illus trated in Fig. 6. hen the blade backing 5 is applied to the package its studs will pass through the openings in the blades and the spacers, (Fig. 6) and when the studs 5a en gage the portions 10a of the arms 10 the latter will be moved inwardly, pivoting at 10, thereby withdrawing the stops 9 from the outermost blade of the stack to release the latter, whereupon said blade will drop upon the blade backing or member 5, and said stops will engage the next adjacent blade to retain the latter and the remaining blades until the backing 5 is removed from the container, (Fig. 7). When the backing has been removed the outermost spacer will engage the webs 1a of the container to retain the stack until a blade backing is again applied to the pgckage or container. The operations will performed for each of the blades successively.
In theform shown in Figs. 9 to 14 the retainers 9", having the stops 9, are pivotally carried by the plate 7', and said retainers have two arms 9a and 9b, of different length, to alternately engage the blades. The retainers 9" are shown provided with laterally extending pivots 11, (Fig. 14;) located in bearings 12, which may be pressed out of the plate 7, adjacent to an opening 13 therein, in which opening the corresponding retainer 9 swings. The arms 9a of the retainers 9 are located within the openings in the blades and the spacers, and the arms 9?) are outside of the blades, in the normal position of the parts, Fig. 10. Springs 14, which may be pressed outof plate 7, enter holes 16 in the arms 9a of the retainers 9" and normally tend to tilt said retainers to the position shown in Fig. 10, so that the stops 9 of the arms 91) will engage the outer ends of the blades to retain the stack. The spacers are of less areathan the blades, so that when a blade is released the adjacent spacer will drop away with said blade, Fig., 13. When a blade is to be removed the blade backing or member 5 will be applied to the package or container and the studs 5a will engage the arms 9a of the retainers 9", thereby tilting said retainers so that the arms 9?) will move away from the outermost blade and the arms 9a will engage the next adjacent blade to retain the remaining blades and spacers, as illustrated in Fig. 13, the outermost blade and spacer dropping upon the backing. When the backing is removed from the package the springs 14 will tiltthe retainers 9 back to normal position, whereupon the arins 96 will pass under theoutermost blade of the stack In accordance with my invention I provide a blade package in which the blades will be retained for removal, and in which it is merely necessary to apply a blade backing member of a safety razor to the package in order that the studs of the backing will actuate the outermost blade to cause the removal of the latter from the stack of blades and application of said blade to the backing. An ad- "antage of my invention is that no manual handling of the blades is required to apply them to the blade backing 5, and no other operations are required to remove a blade other than to apply the blade backing to the package in the manner set forth. The spacers 4 sufficiently separate the blades of the stack to permit the ready entry between two blades of the stops 9, and while I have illustrated spacers in the form of sheets or plates, which may be of paper, other spacing means for the blades may be provided, such as a coating of parafiin on the blades.
My invention is not limited to the details of construction set forth, as the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having nowdescribed my invention what I claim is 1. A blade package comprising a container for. blades provided with an opening for the passage of blades, and devices carried by the container to retain the blades therein, said devices being inposition to be operated by -studs from a razor member to release a blade.
3. A blade package as set forth in claim 1 in which the container is provided with webs adjacent to said opening to retain spacers ad acent to the blades.
4. A blade package comprising a container for blades provided with an opening for the passage of blades, blades within the container, and devices carried by the container to retain the blades therein, said devices being operative in cooperation with the studs from a razor member to release a blade.

A blade package comprising a container for blades provided with an opening for the passage of blades, a stackof blades, the container being provided with'means to retain blades, the container having means to engage an outermost spacer adjacent to the outermost blade to permit removal of the spacers and blades successively.

A blade package comprising a container for blades provided with an opening for the passage of blades, and blade retainers movably carried by the container in position to engage an outermost blade and to be operated in cooperation with studs from a retalners wit razor member to release a blade- 8. A- blade package as set forth in claim 7 provided with spring means to retain the retainers in cooperation with the blades.
9. A blade package as set forth in-claim 7 provided with spring means to retain the retainers in cooperation with the blades, said;
spring means being in position to be operated in cooperation with studs from a razor member to actuate the retainers to release a blade.
10. A blade package comprising a container for blades, provided with an opening for the passage of blades, guides within the container for the blades to keep their cutting edges out of contact with the container, and retainers cooperative with the blades to retainthe'latter while they are guided by the guides, said retainers being in position to be operated in cooperation with studs from a razor memberfor actuating the'ret'ainers to release a blade.
11. A blade package comprising a container for blades provided w1th a side opening for the assage of blades, and movable G liin the container operative within openings in the blades to retain the latter within the container in register with the opening.
12. -A blade package as set forth in claim 11 in which the retainers are movably carried in position to be operated by studs from a razor member to actuate the retainers to release a blade.
13. A blade package as set forth in claim 11 in which the container is provided with spring means operative with the blades to normally retain them in cooperation with the retainers.
14. A blade package as set forth in claim 11 provided with spring-like arms carrying the retainers, said arms having portions in passage of blades, webs adjacent to said opening 'to retain a spacer adjacent to a blade, spring means cooperative with the blades to retain them pressed toward the, webs, and retainers movably carried by the container to enter openings in the bladesto retain the latter.
16. A blade package as set forth in claim 15 in which the retainers are located in posi-- tion to be engaged by studs from a razor member to operate the retainers to release blade.
17. A blade package comprising a container for blades provided with an opening for the passage of blades, and retainers pivot-. ally carried by the container to enter openings in the blades to engage'and support the 1 latter in register with the opening.
18. A blade package comprising a container for blades provided w th an opening for the passage of blades, and retainers pivotally carried by the container, said retainers having arms, one arm being arranged to engage the blades to retain them normally within the container and the other arm being arranged to enter openings in the blades to retain blades when the first named arm releases an outermost blade.
19. A blade package as setforth in claim 18 in which the second named arms are in position to be actuated by studs from a razor member when said studs are'entered into the position to be engaged by studs from a razor member to blade.
