This invention has reference to improvements in blotting devices of the wrist-attachable variety.

Its objects, generally stated, are, to provide a blotter, effective and facile in operation, which presents simplifiedconstruction over other devices of this character with a consequent reduction in the cost of producing same; and, to afford a blotter of its class which is relatively light in weight, thereby enhancing its usefulness.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of the device complete.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of a strip of metallic stock as cut and ready to be bent to form the main parts of said device.

Fig. 3 is a plan view of a strip of cushioning material to be utilized in connection with said parts.

Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the device shown in Fig. 1, designed to indicate more particularly the arrangement of said cushioning material when installed in place and the disposition of sheets of blotting paper in said device. I r

The blotter is mainly constructed of a single piece of metallic sheet material, preferably spring steel, the same being first stamped out as a blank in the form shown in Fig. 2. 1 denotes the body member, 2. a reentrant curved portion disposed at each end of said member, 3 a pair of tips located adjacent each of said curved portions, and 4 an elongated portion extending from one end of said member, said portion having a widened section, as at 5. Said tips are bent back and underneaththe body member to provide clips 6 for holding sheets of blotting paper in the device, and the portion 4 is bent upwardly and curved so as to form a wrist clip 7 disposed above said member, as indicated in Fig. 1. As is obvious, said widened section of the portion 4; serves to strengthen the wrist clip particularly at the bight 8 formed where said portion joins the body member.

A strip of cushioning material, preferably of sponge rubber in sheet form, is provided with a substantially rectangular body portion 10 of a size somewhat smaller thanthe body member of' the device, and an elongated portion 11 of a width equal to said section 5. This strip is cemented, or secured in any other suitable manner, to the'upper surface of said member and to the inner surface of the wrist clip, so that the portion'10 provides a cushion seat for the wrist or hand of the user, and the portion 11 affords a cushioning clement also for the wrist, which, in cooperation with said seat, serves to maintain said clip as adjusted to the wrist securely and comfortably. e

As it may be noted, theportion 11 when mounted in the device extends slightly beyond the side edges of the portion 4: for the major part of its length, thereby preventing the metallic edges ofthe wrist clip from coming in contact with the hand of the user. WVhile sponge rubber, by reason of its nonskid surfaces and yielding properties, is particularly suitable for this use, ordinary flexible sheet rubber, felt, or other cushioning material may be utilized, if deemed expedient. r

Sheets of blotting paper 20, as shown, are mounted in the device byinserting them between the clips 6 and the under surface of the body member, the reentrant portions 2 serving to facilitate their placement or removal. In the present embodiment of the m vention said clips are formed so as t0-ac commodate a plurality of'said sheets without unduly spreading the clips, the sheets located above the exposed sheet acting as a flexible backing for the last-named sheet, and also 0 permitting the user to bring into active use a new sheet without going to the trouble of inserting a new supply of said sheets. It is evident, however, that the clips may be bent v closer to the body portion so that they will securely hold a single sheet. If said sheets are cut a trifle overlength and then bowed as they are inserted in the clips, their resistance against the inner ends of the clips will contribute in holding them in place and make less necessary pressure of the clips against them, and when thus cut and disposed the flexibility of said sheets in the device will be somewhat increased.

In addition to the flexibility afiorded by the iii) sheets of blotting paper and the inherent resiliency of the device, in view of its construction, further flexibility is imparted to the body member of said device as the wrist clip has a flexible connection therewith, as at 8.

In operating the device, the Wrist clip is secured in place over the wrist of the user, the body member carrying the sheets of blotting paper then being disposed below the wrist, when blotting operations may be performed Without interfering with the free use of the hand in writing. Its light-Weight construction, its flexibility, and cushioning features render it effective in use and comfortable for the user.

Changes in and modifications of the construction described, other than those referred to herein, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, hence it is desired that I be not confined to the specific structure set forth, except as limited by the appended claims.

I claim:

1, A Wrist-attachable blotter, comprising a fiat body member, supports for sheets of blotting paper operative from the underside of said member, a Wrist clip extending from one end of and surmonntin g said member, said instrnmentalities being made from a single piece of flat metallic spring material, and a cushioning element made of a single piece of sponge rubber secured to the upper periphery of said member and the inner periphery oi? the wrist clip.

2. A Wrist-attachable blotter, comprising a flat uninterrupted body member made of resilient stock, clips extending underneath said member for holding sheets of blotting paper, a wrist clip extending from one end of said member and formed from an integral strip of said stock, said wristclip having a single point connection with and being curved over said member, and a single strip of cushioning material disposed on the top of said member and the inner periphery of said wrist clip.
