Description
L. GRANGER.
TACK-HAMMER.
Na.181,573 Iatented Aug. 29,1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS GRANGER, OF ARMADA, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN TACK-HAMMERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,573, dated August 29, 1876; application filed July 13, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS GRANGER, of Armada, county of Macomb and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Tack- Hammers.
The following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States. 7
My invention relates to that class of hammers which are made use of for driving tacks and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the'construction of the same hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of the hammer. Fig. 2 is a view of the bottom thereof.
a designates the handle, and 'b the head of an ordinary tack-hammer. To the said handle a of the hammer is bolted the spring-claw 0,
which is provided with an elongated opening, d, for the reception of the shank of the tack to bedriven. The shank of the tack is inserted within the elongated opening (1 in such a manner that the head thereof is securely clasped between the claw 0 and the head of the hammer.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The spring-claw 0, combined with a tackhammer, as and for the purposes described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of June, 1876.
LEWIS GRANGER.
