Description

July 21, 1931. FELLER' 1,815,247
ANTIRATTLER Filed July 29, 1950 Patented July 21, 1931 GOTTFRIED FELLER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN ANTIRATTLER Application filed July 29, 1930. Serial No. 471,513.
This invention relates to an anti-rattler and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with windows, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which, when in applied or working position, effectively eoacts with a window sash to hold the same against rattle or vibration yet without in any way interfering with the desired opening or closing movements of the sash.
The invention also has for an object to provide a device of this kind adapted to be suitably secured to the jamb of a window frame or kindred support and which includes a movable member constantly urged in a direction for contact with a window sash to hold said sash against rattle or vibration.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved anti-rattler whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise mo-re convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation of a window sash and window frame showing an anti-rattler constructed in ac cordance with an embodiment of my invention in applied position;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly in section illustrating my improved device as herein disclosed;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in side elevation illustrating the anti-rattler as herein embodied.
In practice, it is preferred that one of my inproved devices be secured to each jamb of a window frame or side wall of a window opening for coaction with a window sash but as the devices are of duplicate construction it is believed that a detailed de scription and illustration of one device is sufiicient for the purposes of disclosure.
As herein disclosed, each of my improved devices comprising an elongated plate 1 adapted to be anchored by the screws 2 or the like to the jamb 3 of a window frame or kindred side wall of a window opening. An arm 4 substantially midway its ends is freely mounted for swinging movement upon an outstanding headed pin 5 carried by the plate 1 and rotatably mounted upon oneend of the plate and in practice preferably the lower end, is a roller 6 of rubber or other desired depressible or yieldable material. v
A spring member 7 has one end portion connected, as at 8, to the plate 1 withits opposite end portion terminating in a lateral extension 9 having contact with a marginal edge of the arm 4. An intermediate portion of this spring member is coiled around the headed member 5 between the plate 1 and the arm 4. The tension of the spring member 7 upon the arm 4 is such to constantly urge the roller 6 toward the window sash S and to maintain such contact in a manner whereby the sash S is effectively held against a window stop strip 10 or the like to prevent said sash S from having undue vibration or rattle, yet permitting said sash to be moved into either open or closed position without interference.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that an anti-rattler constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the prin ciples and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
An anti-rattling device comprising an anchoring plate, an outstanding pin carried thereby, an arm mounted intermediate its ends upon said pin for swinging movement, a roller carried by one end portion of the arm, and a spring member having one end portion engaged with the plate and its opposite end portion engaged With the end portion of the arm remote from the roller, an intermediate portion of the spring member being coiled about the pin between the plate and arm.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflixmy. signature.
GOTTFRIED FELLER.
