These two gen1settings 7 may be located upon opposite sides of the annular frame 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the increased length of the reduced necks 3 thereof being such as to permit them to pass through a portion of the pin-tongue hinge-member and catch respectively. 7

The pin-tongue 10 as usually constructed is provided at one end with a loop 11 for pivotal connection with projections or studs 12 on the hinge-member 16. The hingemember 16 is formed from sheet-metal with opposite spaced sides 15 bent around to engage the studs 12 with the loop 11. The hinge-member 16 is provided with an annular base or ring 17, the central opening 18 of which is adapted for the reception of the reduced neck 8 of one of the two oppositely positioned gem-settings 7.

In assembling of one gem-setproper opening 2 in the frame 1 and inserted through the opening 18 in the annulus 17. This may be accomplished before the hinge-member 16 is bent into shape to engage the studs 12 with the loop 11 on the pin-tongue 10 whereby to give access to the projecting end of the reduced neck 3 so that it may be more readily swaged over to connect the hinge-member with the frame 1 as shown in Fig. 5.

The pin catch 20 may also be provided with a flatannular portion 21 having a central opening 22 and a curved beak or hook 23 for engaging the end of the pin-tongue. The pin catch 20 is secured to the annular frame 1 by passing the reduced neck 3 of the oppositely positioned gem-setting 7 through the opening 22 and swaging its end thereover in the manner as explained in connection with the hinge-member 16. The flat portion 21 of the pin catch is thus firmly secured to the back of the frame 1 in such position that the curved beak 23 will be suitably related to engage or hook over the free end of the pintongue 10 in pinning the brooch to the apparel.

It will be observed from the foregoing that my improved structure provides for mounting the pin-tongue hinge-member and the pin catch in such manner that their supports are entirely concealed from view by the gems held in the settings, which latter elements serve as a means for securing the parts together. This improved construction renders it possible to provide a pin tongue mounting for various articles of jewelry with its supports entirely concealed from view and thus not detracting from the appearance of the gems or other ornaments in the setting. The invention also provides a rigid, secure means for connecting the pinthe parts, the reduced neck 3 tongue supports to the frame of the article without the necessity of soldering the parts arid without the use of pins, screws or the li e.

Moreover, by securing the pin-tongue supports to the article by means of the gem-settings a more compact structure is provided 1. In an article of jewelry, a frame having an opening, a pin-tongue support having a base seated against the back of the frame and provided with an openlng registering with the opening therein, and a gem-setting provided with a reduced neck portion inserted through the opening in the frame and the opening in the pintongue support and rivet-' ed over on the base of the latter to secure the parts permanently in place.

In an article of jewelry, a frame hav-t ing a plurality of openings, a pin-tongue support seated against the back of the frame and provided with an opening registering with one of the openings therein, and a gem-setting constructed with a portion seated against the front of the frame and provided with means for holding a gem, said gem-setting being formed with a tubular neck portion inserted through one of the openings in the frame and through the opening in the pintongue support with its end swaged over against the latter to permanently secure the parts together.

In an article of jewelry, a body member having a hole therethrough, a pin stem? mounting member formed of sheet stock'having a stem receiving head portion and a pierced flat base portion connected to the head by a foldable neck portion, a gem setting member having a tubular shank extending thru the hole in the body and piercing in the base and riveted over the latter to secure both to said body member on opposite sides thereof by a single riveting operation, the neck portion of the mounting member being subsequently folded to position the head portion over the riveted base portion.

5. A pin mounting" member comprising a base, a head positioned perpendicular to said base, tWo parallel ears projecting from the sides of said head-and having indentures in aligned adjacency, and a bar projecting from the end of one ear towards the other ear.
