Description
July 14, 1931. J. H. NELSON ET AL PORTABLE DRINKING FOUNTAIN Filed May 31.- 1929 Fi g;
Sverre ATTORNEY.
Patented July 14, 1931 NETE STAS PATENT OFFICE JOHN H. NELSON AND SVERRE QUISLING, 0F MADISON, WISCONSIN; SAID NELSON ASSIGNOR TO SAID QUISLING PORTABLE DRINKING FOUNTAIN Application filed May 31, 1929. Serial No. 367,566
This invention relates to a portable drinking fountain and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of such character which may be readily and securely attached to a faucet or pump whereby water ejected from such faucet or pump will be substantially in the form of a jet discharged in an upward direction to enable the user of the fountain to obtain a drink in a convenient and sanitary manner.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawings are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same z- Figure 1 is a vertical section through a fountain in accordance with this invention showing the same in association with a faucet.
Figure 2 is a top plan of the fountain.
Figure 3 is an end elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a drinking tube which may be formed of any suitable material such copper or aluminum and the ends 2 and 3 of which are upturned at substantially right angles. Adapted to seat against the mouth edge of a faucet, such as 4. is a closure member which is preferably in the form of a disk and which is indicated by the numeral 5. The disk is of materially greater diameter than the mouth of the faucet. Formed through the disk 5 is an eccentric-ally disposed opening 6 through which the upturned portion 2 of the tube 1 extends when the disk is positioned relative to the faucet so that the upturned portion 2 projecting above the upper face of the disk will be X- tended into the faucet 4. The opening 6 is of materially less diameter than that of the mouth of the faucet and has a portion of the wall thereof for registry with the inner face of the latter. The upturned portion 2 of the tube 1 snugly engages the wall of the opening 6 and abuts the inner face of the faucet.
Formed on the disk 5 and extending upwardly from the edge thereof is an apertured ear 7 for supporting and threadedly engaging a clamping screw 8. By manipulating the clamping screw 8 of the thumb type until the inner end thereof is brought into contact with the outer wall of the faucet, the upturned portion 2 will be drawn into frictional contact with the inner wall of the faucet and the fountain will be st curely held in position by the clamping engagement of the upturned portion 2 and thumb screw 8.
\Vith the fountain clamped in position, any water that is drawn from the faucet with which it is attached will be directed through the tube 1 and discharged therefrom through the upturned end 3.
It is thought that the many advantages of a fountain in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the fountain preferably will be constructed in accordance with the embodiments herein illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention defined in the appended claim.
lVhat we claim is:
A portable drinking fountain for detach ably connecting to a faucet comprising a flat closure disk for abutment against the mouth edge and of materially greater diameter than the mouth of the faucet, said disk formed with an eccentrically disposed opening of materially less diameter than that of the faucet mouth, a portion of the wall of said opening for registry with the inner face of the faucet, a drinking tube having a horizontal intermediate portion and a pair of vertically disposed end portions, one of said end portions extending through and snugly engaging the wall of said opening and for abutment against the inner face of the faucet, an upstanding ear integral with the edge of the disk, opposing and arranged in close proximity to said opening and formed with an aperture having a threaded wall, and a clamping screw engaging with said threaded wall for binding against the outer periphery of the facuet for detachably securing the fountain to the latter.
In testimony whereof, We aflix our signatures hereto.
