M. D. STALDER ATTACHMENT FOR FAUCETS Filed'lian. 29, 1323 4 INVEN TOR Patented Apr. 28, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
MERLE D. STALDER, 0F LINCOLN, NEBRASKA.
ATTACHMENT FOR FAUCETS.
Application filed January 29, 1923.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERLE D. STALDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster, and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
An object of this invention is to produce a drinking fount for ordinary water faucets.
A further object is to produce a device of this character which may be readily attached to or removed from any ordinary construction of water faucets.
A still further object is to produce a drinking attachment for faucets provided with a filtering means.
To the attainment of the foregoing, and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view showing the improvement attached to a faucet.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a water faucet of the ordinary construction, to which the improvement is attached.
The improvement comprises a pipe memher 2 having angle ends 3 and 4 which extend in the same direction. The inner end 3 of the pipe 2 has in its mouth a frustoconical compressible member 5 which is designed to receive therein the outlet mouth of the faucet 1. Around the pipe extension 3 there is arranged the rounded end of a U-shaped member. It is, of course obvious that this member is not necessarily U- shaped, but that the same comprise rearwardly extending parallel arms 6. Slidable on the arms 6 there is a block 7 having its upper face at the center thereof concaved and having openings at the sides of the concavity. The block also has a threaded opening in a line with the center of the concavity through which there is threaded a screw 8 having its outer end provided with a handle and having swivelly connect- Serial No. 615,693.
ed to its opposite end a cross sectional U-shape clip 9. Passing thru the remaining openings are the threaded arms 10 of a yoke 11. Engaging the arms 10 are nuts 12. By adjusting the nuts the yoke is clamped around the top and sides of the faucet, and by adjusting the screw 8 the pivot 9 is brought into frictional engagement with the underface of the faucet. By such arrangement it will be noted that the improvement may be readily and adjustably supported from the faucet.
The outer angle branch 4 of the pipe 1 has arranged therein a reticulated cage 13 for a filtering medium 14, whereby water passing through the pipe will be effectively filtered. The cage 13 has its lower end coneshaped and is removably arranged in the branch 4 of the pipe 2.
The pipe branch 4 has screwed thereon a cap 15 whose outer face may be'rounded and provided with apertures 16. In the cap there is a screen 17 to prevent any particles of the filtering medium which may escape through the cage flowing with the water through the apertures 16.
The branch pipe 4 has secured thereon a basin 18 whose upper edge is disposed only slightly below the top of the cap 15. The basin is provided'with a water outlet 19, surrounded by a threaded extension in the nature Of a nipple on which is screwed a coupling 20 for a flexible pipe 21 that leads to the sink or other outlet for the water from the faucet 1.
My improvement is especially designed for household use, so that persons therein may drink filtered water from a faucet in a sanitary manner and also whereby the employment of the ordinary drinking vessels will be dispensed with. The construction is comparatively simple, may be readily attached to or removed from a faucet and maybe successfully marketed at a reasonable cost.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is A means for attaching a drinking fount to a faucet, comprising a U-shaped member arranged around the neck portion of the pipe element of the drinking fount in which the non-threaded end of a faucet is received,
a block having openings through which the arms of the U-shaped element pass, a yoke arranged over the body of the faucet having threaded arms passing through openings in the block, nuts screwed on said arms in contact with the block. a screw centrally threaded through the block a cross section ally U-shaped element swivelly connected with the screw, contacting with the under "fa-Ce of the faucet body and forced in en- 10 gagement therewith by the adjustment of the screw.
In testimony whereof I aflix my sipnature.
MERLE D. sTALbER.
