Description

July 14, 1931. E. CINQUINI LIGHT HOLDER FOR WINDOWS Filed Sept. 16, 1929 Patented July 14, 1931 EGISTO CINQUINI, OF WHITNEYVILLE, CONNECTICUT LIGHT HOLDER FOR WINDOWS Application filed September 16,1929. Serial No. 393,027.
This invention relates to an improvement in light holders for windows. It is becoming more and more a custom to place lights in windows at Christmas time, but where draperies are used more or less danger is I incurred, particularly if candles are employed. The object of this invention is to provide means adapted tobe held in place by a window sash and adjusted so '10 that the light may be so located as to prevent igniting draperies. Another object of the invention is to produce a device for this purpose by which the position of the light may be adjusted and also a device which 15 will readily support a candlestickor other light holder, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the light holder for windows constructed in accordance with my invention. 7
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 enlarged.
In carrying out my invention I employ a plate formed with the downwardly offset lip 11 which is adapted to be clamped in position upon the sill by the window sash 12, the plate itself resting upon the window sill 13. Secured torthe plate are the two ends 14 of a wire which is looped at the center forming a shelf 15 from which the wires are bowed upward thence turned inward parallel with the shelf 15 and thence the ends of the wire are extended rearward into engagement with plate 10. This engagement with theplate 10 may me made in any desired manner, as herein shown, slits 16 are formed in the plate producingstraps 17 beneath which ends 14 of the wire extend. Preferably secured to the wires beyond the plate 10 is a transversely arranged loop 18 extending at its ends beyond the wires so as 4 to form a brace which also rests on the window sill and prevents rocking. Slidably connected with the side bars of the frames is an auxiliary frame 19 formed from the single piece of wire coiled at the center to form a socket 20, the ends 21 of the slide passing through clips 22 on the main frame so as to permit the auxiliary frame to be moved outward or inward as desired.
The clip formed in the outer end of the main frame provides for the support of a candlestick 23, and, by the term candlestick, I wish to be understood as meaning the base of a candlelabra or electric light fixture. The socket 20 is also adapted to receive a candle 24 or as it is obvious may support an electric light socket. If desired, and as shown in Fig. 2, of the drawings, the wires forming the main frames may be arranged in a plane above 7 the window sill but parallel therewith.
In the use of this device, the lower sash is raised to permit the edge of the plateto be inserted beneath the lower sash, which is then closed so as to bear upon the plate and hold it firmly upon the window sill, and a single light may be mounted in the socket 20 and this may be moved into the room sufliciently far to avoid possible contact with window draperies. If a candlestick or candlelabra is used it is slipped into the clip formed at the outer end of the main member, the base of the light carrier resting upon the shelf 15. This device, aside from theplate 10, is formed from wire and the loop 18 reinforces these wires and also prevents rocking, thus enabling to produce a rigidlight support at avery low cost for manufacture, and one which permits the use of several lights if desired and at points of safety.
I claim: V I 1. A li 'ht holder for windows comprising a plate adapted to be engaged by a window I sash a main frame formed from wire secured to said plate, said-frame having parallel sides and an auxiliary frame formed from wire and achustablymounted on the main frame,
and provided at its inner end with a lightsupporting socket.
2. A light holder for Windows comprising a plate formed at its outer edge With a downwardly ofl'set lip, and a Wire frame secured to said plate and projecting inwardly therefrom, said frame formed at its inner end With a lamp supporting shelf and a loop secured to said frame parallel With said plate.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
