S. R.'HENRY'.
MACHINES FOR swmrnm FAILS.
Patented Aug. 22,1876.
I WITNESSES: lNv TUB a w W BY ATTORNEYS.
NJEIERS PHDTQLITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON, C.
. NITED STATES SAMUEL R. HENRY, OF STILLWATER, MINNESOTA.'
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR STRIPING PAILS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,338, dated August 22, 1876; application filed May 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL R. HENRY, of Stillwater, in the county of Washington and State of Minnesota-have invented a new and Improved Machine for Striping Pails, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a chuck for holding the pails, striping-rollers, a roller for supplying them with paint from a paint-box, carrying and guiding rollers, and a contrivance for raising and lowering the chuck to facilitate the application and removal of the pails, all as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line as m of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a plan View without the chuck.
The chuck consists of a couple of disks, A, (dotted Fig. 1,) on an inclined shaft, B, which is mounted in the vertically-sliding block 0, to which weights D are suspended for raising it, and the treadle'E for pressing it down. G represents striping-rollers; H, a guide-roller for the hoop; J, a roller for keeping it on the chuck; K, the roller for supplying the paint to the rollers G from the paint-trough L, and
M a scraper for regulating the supply of paint to the striping-rollers.
The paint-supplying roller has a crank, N, p
by which it is turned, and it turns the striping-rollers and the roller J to revolve the pail Y F, which, being put'on the chuck, is pressed by the foot-treadle E down onto the rollers.
The hoop guide-roller H is mounted on a spring, 0, which keeps it in contact with the pail running along the hoops, with its flanges each side of it to keep it in place.
If the pail has three hoops, there will be three striping-rollers. The stocks R, which carry these rollers, are mounted on the rod P, so as to be shifted along as required to adjust the rollers to the hoop.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In machines for striping pails, the hoop guide-roll H, supported on the spring 0, as shown and described.
2. The combination, with chuck A B, of the roll J to hold the pail, as set forth.
3. The combination of chuck A B, rolls H J, and striping-rolls G, substantially as and for the purpose specified. I
. SAMUEL R. HENRY. Witnesses:
FRANK CHASE, J. A. REED.
