The screw 37 is used to adjustablysecure an arm 38, pivoted on the spindle 34, and having a finger pivoted in its outer forked end, this finger being engageable in any of the ticket perforations 12 to act as an impeller.
The finger 40 is free to turn on its pivot 41 when the arm is moved downwardly, clearing the surface of the ticket strip, but held in position to re-engage an opening therein by a clip 42 on the bar; when the bar is moved upwardly to engage the hooked front end of the finger in an opening in the ticket, the inner, square end of the impeller finger abuts the end 39 of the bar 38 between its forked portion in which the finger is pivoted.
The ticket stack 13 is disposed on the bottom 19 of the casing, between a pair of upright posts 43, held at their lower ends in a plate 44 resting on the bottom, and at their upper ends in a support plate 45 above the plane of the key levers.
A pair of inreaching brackets 46, attached to the side plate 15, support an arcuate channelled ticket strip guide 47 bent at a radius corresponding to the axis of the spindle 34; the guide is formed with a recess 48 in which the end of the impeller finger 4O operates and sides 49 between which the edges of the ticket are guided, the ticket being retained in the channel by inreaching flanges 50 at its front edges.
The semi-circular plates 35 have a pair of fixed pins 51 and 52 extending from the rear or inner side to be engaged by the radial advance edge of the smaller segmental plate cam 29 when actuated by the depression of the key lever 22 and thereafter both pins ride against the arcuate edge of the cam during its forward motion, as seen in Figure 3.
In a similar manner another pair of pins 53 and 54, extending from the front or outer sides of the plates 35, engage the advance radial edge of the larger segmental plate cam 31 and ride against its arcuate edge as the cam 31 is actuated by the key lever 23, as seen in Figure 4.
It will now be apparent that the impeller arm 38 having been properly adjusted, the finger 40 will engage in an opening 12 of the strip ticket and advance it in the chute or guide 47 and, due to the break-down joint connection of the finger, the impeller moves freely over the surfaces of the ticketon its return, downward stroke, the up stroke being varied in accordance with the key lever depressed.
The upper end of the ticket guide 47 is connected to a bracket 55 open between its walls, the rear wall being inclined to direct the front end of an advancing ticket to an outlet slot 56 in the top plate 18.
Fixed to the inner end of the bracket 55, at the junction of the curved guide, is a flat plate 57, inclined downwardly at the rear and carrying a pair of strips 58 at its edges, these strips acting as guides for a thin fiat kni e blade 59, its angular front edges converging to an acute point 60 adapted to enter an opening 12 between the ticket or tickets to be dispensed and the next adjacent ticket on the strip within the guide.
Mounted centrally on the upper side of the knife 59 is an upright lug 61 in which are a plurality of spaced openings 62 to adjustably engage a pin 63 passing through the forward ends of a pair of links 64, these links being pivotally engaged at their opposite, rear ends with the upper extremity of a lever 65 fulcrumed on the stud 28 and normally drawn rearwardly by a tension spring 66 attached to the pin 26. g
The lever 65 is moved forward upon depression of the key lever 22, due to'contact by a pin 67 fixed in the segmental plate cam 29, as shown in Figure 3, or upon depression of the key lever 23 by contact with a pin 68 in the segmental plate cam 31, thus severing the strip when advanced to a predetermined point in the manner described.
Attached to the wall 15 is the foot of a bracket 69 having an outstanding angular arm bent downward at the front 71 and attached to an adjustable sectional link 72, its sections being connected by a screw 73 and which is fixed at its lower end to the spindle 34 to assist in supporting the same.
A counting register, generally designated by the numeral 75, of any approved type, is attached to the under side of the top plate 18, the same being operated by a gear train 76 including a ratchet wheel '77, the latter element being actuated at each depression of. either key lever.
A swing loop 78 is pivoted on the spindle 79 carrying the ratchet wheel 77, and on gaged by an arm of the loop is a pawl 80 the upper end of which is shaped, as at 8 1, to engage the teeth of the ratchet wheel when moved upwardly, due to its connection with the upper end of a link 82.
The link 82 is pivoted at its lower end to a double ended lever 83, mounted on the spindle 341 and movable with the semi-circular plates 35, the opposite end of the lever engaging a tension spring 84 attached at its opposite end to the screw 7 3 connecting the elements of the link 72, thereby assuring retraction of the pawl upon the upward movement of either of the key levers to their initial, raised positions.
To compel a full stroke of the key levers, thereby assuring positive and uninterrupted delivery of one or more tickets, an inreaching bracket 85 (see Figs. 7 and 8) is secured on each of the key levers 22 and 23,
these brackets carrying shoulder screws 86 on which are pivoted gravity operated pawls 87 having their attenuated ends 88 normally directed horizontally outward, due to pins 87 fixed in the pawls being constrained between springs 89 and 90 fixed at their connecting member to the bracket.
A metal plate 91 issecured to the front wall 16, this plate being curved to a radius struck from the lever fulcrum 24 and is provided with teeth 92 on its opposite edges, the teeth being formed of ratchet shape to engage the fingers 88, causing the pawls to tilt and prevent their release until the full stroke of the levers has been completed.
Notches 93 in the edges of the plate 91, on both sides of the extreme top and bottom, allow the pawls to reverse their direction and permit the levers to rise by pull of the springs 27, when their full downward stroke has been accomplished.
In operating the machine to deliver a single ticket, the key lever 22, bearing the numeral I is pressed downwardly as far as it will go. This movement, transmitted by the link 30, oscillates the smaller segmental plate cam 29, causin it to engage the plate 35 and rotate the finger 40, engaged in a ticket opening and propelling the ticket through the guide 47, its end extending through the delivery slot 56.
In timed relation the knife 59 is advanced, its point entering one of the openings in the strip and smoothly severing a single ticket, the registering device being simultaneously actuated.
The depression of the lever 23 has the same effect on the larger segmental plate cam 31, which obviously moves the plate 35 to a greater extent, causing the ticket impeller to move correspondingly further, the action of the knife being the same, and the register to indicate two tickets, as two are cut from the strip by the knife.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple device for this purpose has been disclosed in the preferred form of its embodiment, but it is not desired to restrict the details to the exact construction shown, of being obvious that changes, not involving the exercises of invention may be made without conflicting with the scope of the appendedclaims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a ticket dispensing machine, a narrow upright rectangular casing having a hinged door to cover one side, a pair of spring supported key levers pivoted in said casing to extend through its frontwall, a large segmental cam operated by one of said levers, a small segmental cam operated by the other lever, a pivoted plate actuated by each cam independently, and an arm adjustably carried by said plate to engage a ticket to advance the same through an opening in the casing top.
2. In a ticket dispensing machine, a casing to contain a ticket strip, a fixed arcuate guide for the strip, an impeller arm having a pivotally jointed finger operable in said guide adapted to engage in openings between adjacent tickets in the strip to move the same in said guide in one direction, said finger releasing the ticket when moving in a reverse direction, and means for actuating said impeller arm to move in arcs of diiferent lengths whereby one or more tickets may be delivered from the strip.
3. In a ticket dispensing machine, a casing to contain a ticket strip, a fixed arcuate guide for the strip, an impeller arm having a single pivotally jointed finger movable in said guide and adapted to engage in openings between adjacent tickets in the strip to move the same in said guide in an outward direction, said finger releasing the ticket when moving in a reverse direction, and selective means for actuating said impeller arm to move in arcs of different lengths whereby one or more tickets may be delivered from the strip.
4. In a ticket dispensing machine, a casing to contain a ticket strip having perforations between individual tickets, an arcuate guide in said casing for directing the strip to an outlet in the casing, key levers controlling the number of tickets to be dispensed, a reciprocatory impeller arm pivoted in the casing and selectively actuated by each key lever, a finger pivoted on said impeller arm to extend normally in alinement therewith, said finger being engageable in the ticket perforations, and means to render said finger rigid when moving towards the ticket outlet, said means permitting the finger to yield when moving in a reverse direction.
5. In a ticket dispensing machine, a casing to contain a ticket strip having perforations between individual tickets, an arcuate guide for the strip, a reciprocatory impeller having a jointed finger adapted to engage the openings between adjacent tickets in the strip to move the same in said guide in an outward direction, said finger releasing the ticket when moving in a reverse direction, key levers selectively operable to move the impeller variable extents to deliver one or more tickets, and means on each key lever to prevent the premature return of said levers.
