vide a ticket vending machine, in which the tickets are severed and delivered from a continuous strip, one or more, as may be desired, at each operation.
A further object is to provide a mechanism of neat, compact appearance and which is easily operated in an effectivemanner by the depression of one of a series of selective plungers.
Another objectis to provide means for registering the number of tickets as and when delivered.
Still another object is to provide a mechanism comprised of few and simple parts which are not easily liable to become disordered and hence inoperative by use.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which 4 Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 11 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 generally designates a rectangular metallic casing through which the tickets 11, in strip form, pass upward, the strip having oppositely disposed marginal perforations 12 by which it is guided and controlled in its passage and eventually ejected through the opening 14 in the top of the casing.

A wheel, comprising a peripheral band 15 and hubbed flange 16, 1s rotatably mounted on a shaft 17 passing transversely through the walls of the casing, and fixed at equally spaced distances in the wheel rim are opposed pairs of pins 18 suited to engage in the perforations 12 of the ticket strip as best seen in Fig- 1, a guard plate or shield .19 being fixed concentric to the plungers 41, 42, 43, 44 and wheel rim so as to guide the strip in its passage through the machine.
A disk 20 is also rotatably mounted on the shaft 17 by its recessed hub 21, and a flat spirally coiled spring 22 is positioned in the recess, the inner end of the spring being secured to the shaft 17 while its outer end is fastened to the inner wall of the recessed hub 21 in such manner as to rotate the disk 20 in one direction.
Carried by the disk 20, near its edge is a fixed pin 24 on which is'rotatably mounted the hub of a bellcrank lever, its longer arm- 25 being adapted to make contact, in the manner of a ratchet, with teeth 26 arranged internally of the wheel rim 15, the short arm 27 of the lever being drawn by a tension spring 28 fixed at its outer end to a pin i 29 also set in the disk 20.
The pin 29 also performs another function, that of operating the long arm 30 of another bell-crank lever pivoted on-a pin 31 fixed to the casing 10, the short arm 32 of the lever being pivotally connected with a link 33 operatively engaging a slide 34 having a shear or cutter blade 35 at its end for severing the strip. The slide 34 operates in a groove or recess 36 at the top of the casing and the bell-crank returns it to initial position by the pull spring 37, attached at its ends respectively to a lug 38 formed with the bell-crank lever, and a pin 39 fixed in the casing.
Passing vertically through the top of the casing, near the front, are a plurality of 45 differing in length relative to the number of tickets to be dispensed, the lower ends of the plungers being guided in a bar 46 fixed in the casing, each of the plungers being frictionally held by spring elements 47 fixed in the casing.
On one edge of each of the plungers are a plurality of ratchet teeth 48 engageable with pawls 50 pivotally mounted on pins 51, the arrangement being such as to com- 0 pel a full and complete depression of each plunger before it is released by its pawl.
' The lower ends of the plungers normally rest upon an arm 55 extending at a right angle from a bar 56 reaching across the disk 20 and pivoted upon a pin 57 set in the casing wall.
This bar is held in a normally raised position by a tension spring 58 secured at its opposite end to the casing, and pivoted to the bar is a link 60 engaging. one arm 62 of a bell-crank lever, the hub 63 of which is rotatable on the shaft 17.
The other arm 64 of the bell-crank lever has a hingedly jointed extension 65 engageable with a stop or lug 66 fixed to the outer face of the disk 20 in such manner that upon depression of any of the plungers, the disk will be rotated in a contraclockwise direction an equivalent angular distance.

guides 72 fixed in the casing, the arm '71 having pivoted upon its outer face rollers 74 engageable by lugs 75 on the plungers opposite the teeth 48, so that when the plungers are depressed a definite amount the bar is moved outwardly, swinging the extension arm 65 clear of the lug 66 and permitting the disk 20 to rotate back to its initial position, carrying the arm 25 and communicating clockwise rotary motion to the wheel rim 15, thereby advancing the strip 11 a distance equivalent to the plungers depressed.
On the back of the wheel flange 16 may be set pins engageable with the arms 80 of a star wheel by which a counting register, indicated by the gears 81 and opening 82 are actuated.
An alternative device for preventing partial operation is indicated in Fig. 3, in which a ratchet rack 85 is secured to the casing, the same being engageable by a dog 86 pivoted to an extension of the bar 55, the tail 87 of the dog being drawn by a spring into operative position and also held against a vertical bar supported by pivoted links 89 in such manner as to release the dog from ,the rack when the bar 88 is moved down-- ward, either by hand or by its connections with the arm 90 of a bell-crank lever pivoted on a pin 91, the other arm 92 of the lever operatively engaging the bar 71, which upon being moved, obviously frees the rack 85, permitting the bar 55 to rise. This device is however used only when the racks 48 and pawls 50 are omitted.
In operation, the plunger corresponding to the number of tickets to be dispensed is pressed down, this operation first revolving 'the disk 20 and next releasing the same,
which is returned'by the spring 22, ejecting the number of tickets desired, which are finally cut off by the shear 35 and delivered free of the machine.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is
1. A ticket vending machine comprising a casing, a spring energized wheel rota table therein engageable with a strip ticket by which it may be advanced, a row of plunbers graduated in height and depressible in one direction, a shear for severing the ticket strip, means on said disk for actuating said shear, a spring for rotating said disk in one direction, a plurality of plungers having different numerical values and depressible correspondingly different distances, and means actuated by said plungers for operating said disk.
3. A ticket vending machine comprising a casing, a wheel rotatable therein, selective plungers for rotating said wheel through different angular distances, and means for preventing the return of said plungers until a full stroke has been completed.
4. A machine for vending a perforate strip ticket comprising a casing, a fixed transverse shaft therein, a wheel rotatable on said shaft, means on the periphery of said wheel engaging the perforations in the strip, a disk on said shaft adjacent said wheel, a spring fixedon said shaft adapted to rotate said disk in one direction, a spring actuated pawl carried by said disk engaging the rim of said wheel, selective plungers movable in said casing, means actuated by said plungers for rotating said disk, and means also actuated by said plungers for releasing said disk prior to the return of the plungers.
5. A machine for vending a perforate strip ticket comprising a casing, a fixed transverse shaft therein, a wheel revoluble on said shaft, means on the periphery of said Wheel adapted to engage in the perforations of: the strip, a disk on said shaft adjacent to said wheel, a spring fixed to said Wheel, and selective means for actuating said wheel throughpredetermined arcs of motion.
