To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD F. (lrnUM- sTnUr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clinton, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Vending-Machine, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to a machine for vending tickets, one of its objects beingto provide means, adapted to be released by depositing a coin or cheek, for actuating a web or strip of tickets so as to project one ticket from the machine, the said mechanism automatically locking after one ticket has been dispensed so that no additional tickets can be ejected until after another coin or check has been deposited.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a housing having a back and cover 2 which can be hingedly connected to the base as indicated at 3, this cover being securely fastened in closed position in any suitable manner.
A cross strip 4 is secured within the housing and constitutes a guide for a series of slides 5 each of which has stop pins 6 eX- tending laterally therefrom at opposite. sides of the cross strip 1 for limiting the m0ve ment of the slide. A finger 7 extends downwardly from each slide and is connected by a spring 8 to the front wall of the housing. A tray 9 is located under all of the slides and is adapted to receive coins or checks placed in the machine.
Formed in the front of the housing above each of the slides 5 is a slot 10 in which is mounted the actuating arm 11 of a bell crank 12. One of the bell cranks is rovided for each slide 5 and all of the ell cranks are mounted upon a rod 13 extending transversely within the housing. ylhe lower end of eac-h bell crank is forked as shown at 14 and engages a lug 15 extending laterally from the slide 5 adjacent the bell crank. Thus it will be seen that when one of the actuating arms 11 is thrust downwardly it will result in shifting its slide backwardly against the action of the spring 8 until one of the lugs 6 comes against the cross strip 4.
A cross rod 16 is mounted within the housing and mounted on this rod is a series of levers 17 the lower ends of which are forked as at 18 and engage pins or lugs 19 extending laterally from the slides 5. A dog 20 is pivotally connected to the upper end of each lever and when said upper end of the lever is moved back to its normal position, its dog will rest upon a supporting spring 21 as shown in Fig. 3.
A roller 22 extends from each lever 17 and supports the long ar'm of a safety lever 22, one of these levers 22 being provided for each lever 17 and all of the levers 22 being mounted on a transverse rod 23. vEach lever 22 is provided at its upper or outer end with an upwardly projecting point or edge 24: and the long arm of each lever is preferably weighted, as shown at 25. A. recess 26 1s formed in the lower edge of each lever 22 and when the lever 17 is swung forwardly out of its normal position the roller 22 will be brought to position under the recess 26, thus to allow the lever 22 to swing downwardly and cause the lower or back end of the lever to strike a gong 27 in the path thereof.
Upper and lower guide strips 28 and 29 are provided under the top of the housing and are adapted to receive between theml a strip or web W of the ticket as the same is drawn from a roll R mounted on a shaft or supporting spindle S in the housing. One of these rolls of tickets is provided for each set of guides 28 and 29. An arcuate guide plate 30 can be provided between the intake ends of the guides 28 and 29 and a roller 31 can also be provided adjacent the guide plate so.
rllhat portion of the top of the housing directly over the strip of tickets may be provided with transparent portions or windows 32 whereby the end ticket of each strip can be inspected before said ticket is projected from the machine. o
Formed in the front wall of the housing is a series of slots 33 each adapted to receive a coin. Extending from each of the slots 33 is a coin chute indicated by dotted lines at 34, this chute being designed to direct a coin into position upon one end of a lever 35 fulcrumed upon the back of the front wall of the housing and having one end resting in a notch 36 formed in the upper edge of one of the slides 5. A finger 37 is connected to each slide 5 and projects upwardly under the outlet end of the coin chute so that when acoin is directed downwardly through the chute it will come against this finger and be supported thereby within the chute and upon the offset end 38 of the lever 35. A magnet, preferably a permanent magnet such as the strip 39 can be extended across the coin chute so that should plugs be dropped into said chute the magnet will attract them and prevent them from actuating the mechanism.
The projecting end of each slide 5 is preferably formed with a ledge 4.-() and on this ledge may appear the legend Ten Cents or any other legend desired, indicating the amount to be deposited in the coin slot thereabove. When it is desired to remove a ticket from the machine a coin of the proper value is inserted into the selected slot 33 and will gravitate downwardly past the magnet 39 and into position onto the finger 37 and offset end 38 of lever 35. Here the coin will be momentarily supported as indicated by dotted lines at the left of Fig. 2. When the coin comes against the offset end 38 of lever 35 the other end of the lever will be lifted out of the notch 36 in the slide 5 so that said slide will thus be released. By then pressing downwardly on the arm l1 above said slide, the slide will be moved backwardly, drawing the portion 40 into the wall of the housing and at the same time withdrawing the finger 37 from under the coin supported thereby. Thus the coin will be free to drop into the tray 9. During this movement of the slide 5 the lever 17 coupled thereto will be actuated, causing the dog 2O to engage the perforations extending between two of the tickets of the strip W and to pull the strip longitudinally until the end ticket is completely projected through a slot 41 provided therefor in the front of the machine. Just as the projection of the ticket is completed the roller 22 comes under the recess 26 so that the long arm of lever 22 is dropped into contact with the gong 27 and the point or edge 24 moves upwardly into the perforations formed between two of the tickets. The lever or arm 1l can then be released whereupon spring 8 will return the various parts 4t0 their normal positions, so that` when another coin is inserted into the machine the operation herein described can be repeated. The projecting ticket can be torn off and used for the purpose intended but the point or edge 24;, by engaging the web W will prevent more than one ticket from being withdrawn.
It isl to be understood that any desired number of strips or webs YV can be used in the machine, this depending upon the number of operating arms l1 and coperating parts built into the machine.
Sight openings indicated at 42 can be provided in front of the housing so that the coins can be seen as they pass downwardly within the chutes 34. y

In a vending machine a slide, yielding means for holding the slide normally projected in one direction, an actuating lever for shifting the slide, an ejecting lever operated by the slide, means carried by the ejecting lever for engaging and shifting a Aperforated strip, a stop lever having one arm normally supported by the ejecting lever, and coperating means upon the stop and ejecting levers for shifting the stop lever during the movement of the perforated lstrip by the ejecting lever to limit the movement of said strip.
2. In a vending machine a slide, yielding means for holding the slide normally projected in one direction, an actuating lever for shifting the` slide, an ejecting lever operated by the slide, means carried by the ejecting lever for engaging and shifting a perforated strip, a stop lever having one arm normally supported by the ejecting lever, and cooperating means upon the stop and ejecting levers for shifting the stop lever during the movement of the perforated strip by the ejecting lever to limit the movement of said strip, and an audible signal adapted to be sounded by the stop lever during such movement.
3. In a vending machine a slide, yielding means for holding the slide normally in one position, an actuating lever for shifting the slide out of normal position, means for supporting a perforated strip, means operated by the slide for engaging and shifting the perforated strip, and means controlled by said strip shifting means for limiting the movement of the engaged strip.
4f, In a vending machine the combination with a slide and yielding means for holding the slide normally in one position, of an actuating lever for shifting the slide, an ejecting lever operated by the slide, means on the ej ecting lever for engaging and shifting a perforated strip, a stop lever, means on the ejecting lever for normally supports ingthe stop lever in a predetermined position, and for releasing the stop lever when the strip ejecting lever is moved to vertical position, thereby to limit the movement of the actuated strip, and a signal operated by the stop lever during such movement.
5. ln a vending machine the combination with a slide, an indicator thereon, and yielding means for holding the slide normally positioned with the indicator exposed, of an actuating lever for shifting the slide out of its normal position, an ejecting lever adapted to be shifted by the slide, means for Supporting a perforated strip movably adjacent the levers, means upon the ejecting lever for engaging the perforated strip to shift it during the actuation of the slide, a support upon the ejecting lever, a stop lever normally bearing on the support, said stop lever being sliiftable by gravity out of normal position during the movement of the ejecting lever out of normal position, thereby to engage and limit the movement of the perforated strip.
6. ln a vending machine the combination with a slide, an indicator thereon, and yielding means for holding the slide normally positioned With the indicator exposed, of an actuating lever for shifting the slide out ot its normal position, an ejeeting lever adapted to be shifted by the slide, means for supporting a perforated strip movably adj aeent the levers, means upon the ejecting lever for engaging the perforated strip to shift it during the actuation of the slide, a support upon the ejecting lever, a stop lever normally bearing on the support, said stop lever being shiftable by gravity out of normal position during the movement of the ejecting lever out of normal position, thereby to engage and limit the movement of' the perforated strip, and a signal device operated by the stop lever during such movement.
