AMUSEMENT DEVICE Filed June 5. 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet l y%w% 50mm? we? ATTORNEY WITNESS:
J 1 3 um 1,811,812 I AMUSEMENT msvmz Filed June 5, 1929 2 shoe ng-sheet '2 Patented June 1931 PATENT OFFECE BOWMAN B. UBER, OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO AMUSEMENT DEVICE Application filed June 5,
This invention relates to amusement devices and has for an object the provision of a device which will prove interesting and amusing and which requires considerable 5 skill in playing. I
Another object of the invention is the provision of an amusement device which includes a device movable along one edge of a platfrom or table and controlled by the weight of 1 a manually controlled object traveling over the same, so that the operation of the device will depend upon the skill of the player.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following 15 novel features and details of construction, to
be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of an amusement device constructed in accordance with the invention. I
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is L fragmentary plan view.
Figure 4c is a central sectional view of the subject matter disclosed in Figure 3.
F lgure 5 is a fragmentary transverse section.
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view of the contact shoe.
Figure 7 is a diagrammatic view showing the operating means for the movable device.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a table or platform, which in the form of the invention shown is rectangularand provided with a central opening 11, the top of the table or platform sloping from its upper edges downwardly toward the opening 11.
Extending around this opening below the table top is a track 12 which includes a third rail 18, while movable over this track is a device which is preferably in the form of a train and includes a locomotive 14 and a trailer 15. The train is electrically operated and may receive its current from a suitable source through the third rail 13. The locomotive 1929. Serial No. 368,722.
carries a motor 16, while the trailer carries a shoe 17. This shoe is in the formof a U- shaped metallic member which is connected to one end of a substantially L-shaped arm 18 through an insulated member 19, the arm 18 and member 19 being pivotally connected as shown at 20. The arm 18 is mounted upon a pivot rod 21 which is suspended in brackets 22 which are carried by the trailer 15, while the free end of the arm 18 has mounted thereon a plate or receptacle 23. This plate or receptacle 23 is located beneath an opening 24 provided in the trailer 15 and as seen in Figure 5 of the drawings, the trailer is of substantialiy the same height as the inner edge of the table or platform. The motor 16 is connected to the shoe 17 by means ofaconductor 25 and is grounded to the frame of the locomotive 14 by a conductor 26. Current maythus pass from the rail to the shoe 17, through the conductor 25, the motor 16, the conductor 26 and to a suitable ground through the frame, the wheels of the locomotive and the track.
The inventionfurther includes one or more spherical elements 27 which are adapted to roll over the surface of the platform or table, the object being for the player to start one of these elements 27 at or near the outer edge of the table or platform and permit the said element to roll inward with a view of entering the opening 2 1 of the trailer. In doing so, the playermust take into consideration the speed of-travel of thetrain and the speed of travel of the element 27 and must time the start so that the said element will reach a proper position at the inner edge of the plat form or table to enter the opening-2 In the event of the element 27 entering the 7 opening, it will'restupon the plate 23 so as to depress this end of the arm 18 and raise the shoe 17 from contact withthe third rail so as to interrupt current to the motor 16 and stop the operation of the train. In the event that the element 27 does not enterthe opening 24, it will be received within a re ceptacle 28 which extends around the table opening. This receptacle is preferable in the form of a gutter-shaped fabric which has one of its edges provided with rings 29 which engage over hooks 30, carried by the structure which supports the tracks 12. The opposite edges of the fabric are secured to a rail 31 which is spaced from the edges of the tubular opening and is supported upon standards 32. The attendant will stand within the frame 31.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. An amusement device embodying a table, a target movable along one edge thereof, means whereby the target may be moved, a gravity projectile capable of movement over the top of the table toward the target and means for automatically stopping the target by contact with the gravity element.
2. An amusement device embodying a table having a top provided with a. central opening and said top being inclined toward the opening, a track located within and extending around the opening, a device movable upon the track, means whereby the de vice may be moved, manually controlled means adapted to be moved over the top of the table and receivable within the device and means whereby the manually controlled means may stop the movement of said device.
8. An amusement device embodying a table having a top provided with a central opening and said top being inclined toward the opening, a track located within and extending around the opening, a device movable upon the track, means including a motor, whereby the device may be moved, manually cont-rolled means movable over the top of the table and receivable within the device and pivotally mounted weight operated means located within the device and engageable by the manually controlled means to stop the operation of the motor.
4. An amusement device embodying a table having a top provided with a central opening and said top being inclined toward the opening, a track located within and extending around the opening, an electrically operated device movable over the track, a spherical element receivable within the device and means adapted to be engaged by the spherical element to stop the operation of the electrically operated device.
5. An amusement device embodying a table having a top provided with a central opening and said top being inclined toward the opening, a track located within and extending around the opening, an electrically operated device movable over the track and including a weight controlled contact shoe, a spherical element adapted to be moved over the table and means connected to the shoe and adapted to be engaged by the spherlcal element to move the shoe and stop the operation of the electrically operated device.
6. An amusement device embodying a table having a top provided with a central opening and said top being inclined toward the opening, a receptacle extending around the table Within the opening, a track arranged adjacent one edge of the table and receptacle, a device movable upon the track, means whereby the device may be operated and manually controlled means adapted to be moved over the table to enter either the device or the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I attix my signature.
