This invention relates to hullers of the type commonly. known asbar hullers, and has for its principal object to provide a knife for use with such hullers which is exceptionally inexpensive to manufacture as compared with knives at present employed.

The knife embodying the present invention is a modified form of that disclosed in my co-pending application Serial No. 222; 250, filed Sept. '27, 1927. ' It is, therefore, afurther object of the invention is quite an improvement over the types of knives generally employed inasmuch as the latter include a longitudinal groove extending throughout the entire length of the knives and upon opposite sides, which requires machining andmvolves additional labor.

To effect a further saving in production cost the knives may be made of substantially one-third the amount of material required in the productionof the customary type of knife by providing a filler or backer member adapted to rest within the base of the groove formed upon the cylinder and concave with which the knives are adapted'to engage. Thisconstruction is clearly disclosed in the application above-referred to. I

In the drawings, 10 indicates a knife which is adapted to be disposed Within a groove providedin a cylinder or concave of a huller, the construction of which is not shown as the same is fully disclosed in my co-pending application above referred to. This knife 10 is formed of tool steel, and, as shown in the drawings, is a relatively flat bar of rectangular cross section. The knife is provided with a plurality of cutting edges 11 extending throughout the length of the bar. The knife is reversible in such a manner that all of the cutting edges may be employed at different times by merely reversing the bar fromend to end or from front to back.
